Default Carbon/Charcoal Canister

Hi all,

My '99 X308 threw up a check engine light so I took it in. I had not noticed previous performance issues. My mechanic tells me the issue is a cracked carbon canister/charcoal canister, one of two on the car. Has anyone else dealt with this issue? Additionally, he noted that the replacement canister seems to be rare.

Thanks all,

Will

I'm surprised that caused an warning code, as I ran mine disconnected for months without an issue. Maybe US cars have a different set of codes programmed in.

How much was your performance affected by disconnecting it?

The canisters are part of the EVAP system and will fault if there is a leak when the CANISTER CLOSE VALVE operates.
I would try EPOXY RESIN to repair before discarding the canister.

Do you recall what the code was? I'm wondering if I have some issue with the charcoal canisters on my 2000 VDP as it throws odd codes at times and sometimes it has a hard time starting and acts weird for about 30 seconds. When it acts up, the car is wanting to stall and very rough running and i have to press the accelerator to get it to continue running. Once that clears up, it runs completely fine. When it does the hard start, it has a very distinct gasoline smell.

When there is an EVAP leak you will usually get a P0442 or P0455. (small or large leak)

The Duchess threw a P0455 and the canister was cracked.

Not at all. But going by the codes mentioned in the thread you lot seem to have a different version of the system as there was no electrical connections to mine.
