Slight scraping issue.
So today, I have noticed an absolutely horrible scraping noise coming from the rear passenger side of my car, it's like metal on metal. Don't see anything out of the ordinary, didn't have much time to inspect it before it got dark as well.
Going to take a look at it tomorrow, any suggestions or things I should be looking for?
It doesn't seem to be constant, more of a on and off kind of thing. Heard it barely when pulling in to my driveway, but was really bad earlier in traffic, didn't go away until I sped up.

There are lots of things that could break or come loose and cause a scraping noise from underneath the car and can sometimes be elusive, seemingly coming from a location far from the source. Before anyone could hazard a guess, we'd at least need to know is the noise rhythmic and vary with your speed (revolutions of the wheel/driveshaft) or is it more random and vary with the roughness of the road surface? That's not enough to guess, but at least point to either a problem with the rotating assembly or a problem with the suspension, exhaust or a body part. Just hope its not brutally cold out where you are because sounds like you're going to have put the car on jackstands, take a wheel off and snoop around underneath it to find the offending part.
As noted: lots of things. Couple of things would help. Where do you live? Put it in the upper right box. Cuz, if it is cold, it could be upper-rear shock mounts (tough to fix) or something real simple, dried out rear exhaust mounts (donuts) which really clank when it is freezing cold (shoot it with silicon spray).
Any work been done lately (had a tech -- before I bought the car -- forgot to tie down the fuel filter -- banging like crazy; drove me mad!)?
Happening over rough roads (suspension), when braking, accelerating . . . some more info helps.
Probably worn lower shock mounts . . .

hi, no work done recently. i live in texas, it's not super cold rn. maybe been 50-60 degrees, drops at low 40s. went to vegas recently and let it sit for about 5 days.
it's not rythmic, it's not banging, it's like scraping, like horrible scraping. it doesn't seem to have a certain cause, i feel like it's just when i start going, as if something actively dragging. primarily at lower speeds. don't notice it at high. even moving my car from the street to my driveway, i heard it a little, if i had to guess, i wouldn't say it's the brakes, cause from the start just going forward i heard it. so, maybe just low acceleration i would say. thank you for the response

Not to scare you, but my scraping noise was the left thrust bearing in the differential going out. I found a low mileage used differential and did a swap. No more noise. I kept the old diff, and someday I plan to dig into it and see if I can fix it.
Lift the car and push in and out at the top of the wheel (12:00). If it moves in and out, this could be your problem. On mine, the movement was pretty significant. I went underneath with a flashlight and had a buddy move the wheel in and out in order to see what was actually moving. I was initially hopeful that it was a wheel bearing or U joint. Nope. The shaft moved in and out of the differential itself, which meant that the thrust bearing was wearing out. There should be essentially no movement in and out, when you push and pull at 12:00 on the rear wheels.
Hopefully that’s not your problem, but worth checking while you’re at it.

I recently changed a bad rear wheel bearing. Changed out entire hub assembly because easier. It went bad fast. Heard a thunk a couple times and the next day metal grinding on turns. Stopped driving. Raise wheels and see if any play.
