"CHECK REAR LIGHTS" everytime I step on the brake
Anyone have any idea why this would happen? I have changed the brake switch, checked the tail lights (all of them). They are working fine. A friend has a 2000 XJ8 and his lights work just the same but no "CHECK REAR LIGHTS" when he steps on the brake. Any ideas?
X350's have LED rear lights, so yes quite likely nobody reading the X350 forum had that problem...
As our friends at Coventry Foundation suggest, you should exchange your brake light bulbs for some quality brand-name ones, or maybe even genuine Jaguar ones.
Good luck.

Before you whine about how nobody will give info about your car........... How about telling us what car you have????
I'm out!!

Bulbs of different brands will do this OR brass bulb bases vs/ silver ones will trip this message as well and illuminate just fine. I presume the center brake light works? And using your user name to identify your car is not a good idea. I use GranTorino, never owned one !

On this forum, there are many threads on what your problem could be. Please review them. With the information you have provided, it sounds like you have a bad SLCM. Need to go under your boot carpet, on the left side, and you will see a listing of key modules. You need to buy one that matches: the frequency is important.
John: I had a similar problem when I stepped on the brakes i'd get check rear lights flash on the dash.I cleared it by removing ,cleaning and tightening ground nuts in the spare tire compartment.Remove battery posts before Doing the work. Laters Carlos
I had the same problem (intermittently) on my 99 XJR. New bulbs didn't fix it, but another stab at it using dielectric grease worked. I suspect a bit of corrosion that is invisible.
I had the same problem, only not every time I put the brakes on, but often. I took out each bulb and cleaned them and the socket, whether it looked like it needed or not. that seemed to cure the problem for me. Oh, and when I put the bulbs back in the socket, I put a bit of bulb grease on to help deter further corrosion
There are current sensors in the 2 light modules in the X308 which give you the warning light
It has a history of the rear lamp assembly ground going bad not allowing current but the lamps will light
sub par bulbs will also limit current
Battery fuse link nuts tight ?
