Default Cranking but no fire

Hi guys I've just got.my late uncle's xj8 sport and when I went to get it the battery was dead so put my spare battery on it and 2 gallons of fresh fuel in it but it turns over ok but won't fire been told these have a fuel cut off some where but any advice will be greatly appreciated

Have you checked to make sure it's not cylinder washed? Also have you checked the fuel pump is operating? The cut off normally only comes on if the car has had a bump.

Hi mate how do I sort out bore wash I'm old skool when it comes to cars I've always had Ford's cortina capri escort so not used to all the electronics in a car

First determine if you even have fuel at the engine. There is a valve that looks just like a tire valve on the fuel rail. Turn the key on and off and depress the stem of the valve to see if there is fuel pressure. It should spurt out . Cars that have sat often suffer from fuel pump failure.

RJ237 is right.

Do an in-forum search on bore wash and on fuel pump failure (I remember a thread on this just some days ago) and you will find plenty of information.
Determine the symptoms first.

Check the inertia switch. It is inside on the right footwell just forward of the A-pillar.

See your drivers handbook (or download from the stickies).
