Default DA-VINA J2534 interface and x308's

Has anybody worked with these pass-through interfaces before? Seems like a good value for what you get, and they're listed as being fully compatible with x308's excluding ECM flashing, which I'll probably never need...

Looking to read ABS codes and do key programming for now, and maybe eventually some datalogging (getting some sporadic surging in certain driving conditions), as well as possibly access deeper level logs in the BCM to see if there's any history stored there (again, a sporadic problem with no-start no-crank that I haven't been able to trace yet). Will these do the trick, or am I more likely to brick some expensive old Jag computers by hooking one of these da-vinas up?

Jaguar began to support the J2534 'pass-through' devices with the introduction of SDD 125. (2011)
Read as much about the devices as you can before making a decision.

Lots of info on the interweb and Jaguar issued many TSBs.
