Default Do you know this about the XJR (X308)

Hi all,

I hope you take the time to thoroughly read this. I have contacted many people and I have had many help to almost completing this issue. Special thanks to RedOctober (Alex) for his help and going a far way to taking photos of his own car to walk me through the steps and helping me solve my issue. I just have one more thing that I am confident someone here would be able to help me complete. I have a 1998 XJR and I have a loose line that I am just unsure of where it goes. Below are the photos with color markings that I have marked.

In picture 1, there are 3 lines that are from the the right side (US driver side) bulkhead. They go to the Vacuum Switching Valves and Check Valve under the bulkhead. The one marked YELLOW goes to the Vacuum Reservoirs (behind the right headlamp). The one marked BLUE goes to the Vacuum Actuator (on top of the TB). But I can't seem to figure out where the one marked RED goes to. Now, you go and look at picture 2 it shows the lines connected to the EVAP Purge Valve. I marked the lines GREEN and PURPLE. The green marked line is connected to the purge valve and the purple marked line is connected to the vacuum control pipe from the induction elbow. Where I marked RED in picture 2 is the "T-shaped" connector (It is plugged at one end because I couldn't figure out what goes to it so I plugged it because I didn't want it to be a vacuum leak. Prior to me plugging it, it was left open).

What I am thinking is the line I marked RED in picture 1 is what should go and plug into the "T" connector where I marked RED in picture 2. But of course, I am not sure so I don't want to plug it in and ruin anything. When I bought the car, the bottom of the EVAP Purge Valve was not even plugged in and the car wasn't running right. I assume the previous owner may have taken it off and forgotten to put it back together. And thanks to RedOctober (Alex), he was kind even to spend to time taking photos of his own vehicle to help me dig for the line that goes to the induction elbow (which was dangling deep into the other hoses).

Would someone please be so kind and look at theirs and let me know whether what I mentioned about is right (Does the RED marked line in picture 1 go into the "T" connector marked RED in picture 2) And if not, would you please guide me to what goes into that "T" connector and where I can find it. I've searched high and low and I can't figure it out. Thanks much in advance

BTW, I believe I have the Single Canister System ( on of the 3 - the other two is the Running Loss System and the Running Loss with On-board Re-fueling Vapor Recovery (ORVR) System. I believe the ones that are equipped with the other two system doesn't have that third line)

Thanks,
Dev

Hmm...interesting, 83 views and not one reply. Would someone be so kind and look at their vehicle to help me out? Thanks

Have some patience. It takes a lot more then just taking a 'look at their vehicle'... in order to see what you are showing several cover panels must be removed. I'm not saying it's too much work to help you, just suggesting that you shouldn't expect the average viewer to jump up, go out, remove the access panels and take pictures for you.

I will be under the hood tomorrow and if I get the extra time I'll see if I can take off the rear cover panels and take a look. Mine, however, is an XJ8 and I don't know if any of this is different. What year, BTW? Could there be a difference here also?

Also, you state Right side (US driver side)... which is it? These are contradictory.

You are right QuadManiac. Thanks for reminding me to be patience and apologies to those who have viewed. Anyways, mine is a 1998 and should have been more clear. It is a US car (left hand drive), but was talking about the right side bulkhead if looking from the from of the vehicle (which, of course, would be the bulkhead of the drivers side if looking from inside the vehicle). Thanks

I just fixed this yesterday on my 98 XJR.
The red line goes to the red port on the Tee.
You were right in your logic.

I apologize, I'm a little confused what I'm looking at in the second photo, but that hose connects to a 'T' under the item marked with a GREEN circle. Mine fell off when I still had it and I traced it back to there.

That may very well be what you are referring to, but I cannot tell for sure and I don't have my car anymore to go take photos.

BTW: This picture is beginning to look like a FANTASTIC Football Play!
