I just purchased a 2002 XJ8 VP. The remote key requires several times of pushing the unlock button before the doors unlock. Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

 

Take the remote apart just like replacing the batteries, pull out the board, then take a bit of rubbing alcohol on towel to lightly clean them. You'll probably want to wipe the rubber cover inside to remove any residue. Put it back together and give it a go, ...if the batteries are old, now's a good time to replace them.

One point to make: be careful to NOT press the buttons when taking the remote apart. You can screw up the programming/linkage to the car. You need (if it's just the batteries) 2x of type 2016 (not a single 2032 coin type) coin batteries for each; watch the polarity when replacing.
