Engine cut out and will not re-start
Hi All,
My 2000 XJ8 is playing up again.
Driving home from work, the engine just cut out. Tried to restart with no joy. I left it for about half an hour and tried again. It did then start but it was ticking over on very low revs and when I pressed the accelerator no additional revs came in. Had the car towed home (car was only 0.5 mile from home and 30 miles to a garage) and I've got no way of pulling any codes.
I have no technical ability or understanding of engines or electrics unfortunately, but if I could get some idea of what the problem might be (and how much it costs) I can then make a choice on having her fixed or consider if it is time to let the old beast go to the big garage in the sky. Does this sound like a fuel pump issue?
Many thanks in advance for any help.
Lofty

Hi Rob,
Many thanks, I lost power for a couple of hundred yards, then it just cut out. I think I'm going to have to get the code(s) pulled, you never know it might just be a relay or something simple.
I noticed that a few days later the battery was flat, is a low battery something that can put a gremlin in the works and send me in the wrong direction.
The battery is only about 18months old, do they go that quickly?
