Default Front Cover Crank Seal Replacement

Can someone provide guidance on how to properly install this front cover crank seal. We have tried twice. First time harmonic balancer crushed seal so it was rubbing on chain. Second time it pushed seal in and is leaking. The seal doesn't even seem to be the correct side for the diameter of harmonic balancer. Is it supposed to push this seal in? Is there suppose to be another oring in the cover with it?

Anyone able to help. We did a rebuild and cars running amazing and this is the last thing to finish up so it's driveable. This is a 1998 Jaguar XJR

Did your seals come with an orange protective plastic ring?

It has the red ring it ships with to protect it. That was taken out before attempting to install. The pulley just doesn't seem to fit the seal and just gets pushed in

I used the seal part number AJ83698 (came with orange protective insert) on my SC engine without any issues. This part number superseded the original number NCA2114BA.

I can't help much on the seal, it should fit if you have the right part. Just in case you didn't know: there is a thin O-ring inside the harmonic balancer pulley that slides over the crank that you'll want to replace while you have it apart. Be sure to oil up the surfaces of the o-ring and the seal so everything slides in place.
