Default Greetings from Georgia

I posted this to the new members area but
also wanted to post it here for my specific year
and model

Hello, my name is Jennifer. I am 44, live in Augusta GA,
am retired Air Force and work in the medical field.
I have wanted a Jag since I was 10 yrs old and today
I made that dream a reality. After much research, a lot
done on these forums, I am the proud new owner
of a 2000 XJR. She (the car is definitely female) is fully
loaded with every option and upgrade that was available
that year to include the outdated phone...lol...and has
95890 miles on her. I bought her from a classic car
dealership 2 hrs away and had the divine pleasure of
flooring it passing other drivers on the back country
2 lane hwys. She accelerates so smoothly you have no
idea how fast you are going until you look down at the
instrument panel and go "holy crap!".
I want to thank you all for knowledge and advice as I
lurked as a visitor and avidly read the forums.

Welcome to the forum. Now down to business. Do you know if the secondary chain tensioners have been upgraded to the metal body 3rd gen? That's a very important issue, as you will know if you have reviewed some of the old threads.

Thank you for the warm welcomes .

RJ, the only service records I have are a Carfax report
and there is no mention of replacements so I am assuming
it has not been done. As a 2000 I should have the upgraded
2nd generation plastic tensioners.

Eric, I think so as well! .

The upgraded plastic parts just have a spring added so they won't rattle as they approach the failure point. If you are not equipped to do this yourself you need to find a reliable shop, not a dealer. I would offer to help if we were a little closer.

Most of us look upon the Jags as being a great hobbyist car. Inexpensive, well built, parts not hard to find, fairly easy to work on. But repairs can easily get out of hand if you have to take it to a shop for everything.

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on your XJR! She's a beauty. There's really something about a Jag which I think you already experienced that!

It would take a lot less time to remove a cam cover and confirm the tensioner type than drive to Douglasville and back. Actually about an hour. Maybe a member in your area could recommend a shop to pull the cover and check.

Look for a private message (PM).

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your Jag! Gorgeous car! You are in for a lot of good times. Be prepared - you will always look back at your car after parking it as you're walking away. You'll never get tired of looking at her. :-)

Ditto on looking into what secondary timing chain tensioners you have. If they're second generation, get them upgraded to third generation metal.

Jennifer,

You didn't indicate what you level of mechanical aptitude is, but the first step would be to pull off one of the cam covers (driver's side is easier) and inspect the chain tensioners. If not metal, they need doing.

PS, Asteroid wheels are my favourite on any Jag!
