As an European, I still have no idea what Thanksgiving really means, but know it is important for you guys, so +1.
And yes, this forum rocks, hopes it lives forever!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all of the great forum members worldwide even if they don't understand the tradition.

The Puritans felt persecuted so they fled England to the NEW WORLD. They were off course and they ended up farther North than intended. The Native Americans felt sorry for them and tried to help.

They got together a socialist compact (MAYFLOWER COMPACT) that almost killed them. (everyone got an equal share, both the lazy and industrious)

They decided to go a little more capitalistic to discourage laziness and wanted to thank God for getting them through the hard times.

Big feast and all were invited.

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving back at y'all.

Motorcarman is misled by the Puritan myth, ...it really was all started by the NFL and poor ratings. They found by giving it a name like Thanksgiving and gathering more people to eat , the only other thing to do was watch football. I mean I could be misrepresenting that just a tad, but I think its a fair argument.

I pray every member has plenty to be thankful for - I, for one, have more than I could ever deserve, including two beautiful Jaguar motorcars.

I want to especially commend Bob, not only for how generously he shares his knowledge and expertise, but for also knowing his history of the Pilgrim struggles under socialism/communism - "Lest we forget" (and thanks to Kipling for that phrase).

Thanks also to President Abraham Lincoln for establishing our national day of Thanksgiving. I highly recommend re-reading his Proclamation of Thanksgiving from October 3, 1863.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Don
