Default Help me find a break in the fuel pump relay circuit

I just had a new fuel pump and flange installed on my car. Now the shop is saying there is a break in the fuel pump relay circuit, which WAS NOT THERE BEFORE. Does anyone know where on a 2001 jaguar xj 308 a break in the fuel pump relay circuit is most likely to occur. This wasn't an issue before I brought it into there shop. Could it be as simple as a fuse or relay, or could they have damaged it during the repair process, only to add it to my bill. What do yall think??

I'm not a real expert on these matters but this discussion at the bottom of today's message might be helpful: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-relay-295856/

Notice how the fuse is after the relay

Notice the secret fuse in the left heelboard fuse box # 10

This fuse may have to have the ignition positive # 2 close to power the fuse

This relay can be seen on page 39 and 41 as the 2 circle double hash electrical point

Your fuel pump control is Y electrical point

I would suspect that the break is along the line that runs from the fuel tank to fuse and relay box: said another way, the shop needs to redo their work (at their expense).

Huh? What are you saying, Parker? I think the shop broke an electrical line to the fuel pump on either removing the tank and fuel pump or on reinstalling same . . . it is possible that they also blew the relay and/or fuse in the process. The shop needs to check their work -- not impossible that something other than the fuel pump going bad, now fixed, surfaced after the repair, but doubtful: just not a fan of coincidence (maybe cuz I have fat fingers with arthritis, prone to errors). They broke a line and need to run continuity checks across the circuit, ne? Or bridge it.

Thanks! This was my reaction as well when they tried to add to my invoice a problem I NEVER had before going to there shop. Too money hungry and greedy to ADMIT there fault and double check or repair their faulty wiring.

Hopefully, it is just a blown fuse or relay that needs to be replaced.

Could be as simple as putting the connector on the 2nd fuel pump position where yours only has the one for normally asperated

Check the ground post along the battery area

There is a noise suppressor on the pump motor pigtail ( not on all X308s from what I gather ) that can be tested by...............is it a capacitor that test by resistance on a meter and as the cap charges by the meter ( meter supplied feeler voltage best by a larger / 9 volt meter ) and the resistance collapses and restarts the resistance / charge build up again to collapsing again

The fuel pump relay can be at fault either by the relay not receiving command or other like arcing of the power contacts inside the relay and the pump motor connector sockets both recommended to change in pump replacement ( will arc both of these as pump fails )

You can jumper the relay socket betweand directly poweren 3 and 5 , this will drain battery with keys in pocket

And of course the new pump can be bad out of stock with the in the pump check valve being bad as heard of on this forum . Either # 1 or 2 can have a bad check valve and ruin the fuel line pressure to start engine
