Question HELP NEEDED, Restricted Performance, Amber light

I hope some one can Help, I keep getting restricted performance coming up on the Dash with an amber light, someone told me it could be the MAFS, what happens is when i get up to 3000 Revs and over it pulls back after driving about 7 miles the amber light comes on with Restricted Performance, you can build up speed slowly getting upto 70 miles an hour with no problems, when the car is still and engine running, it judders, we have replaced the MAFS with a new one today from Jaguar, and it still is happening, the performance is better and smother, we have put SDP in the fuel tank to see weather that stops it, just in case the fuel injectors are block, IS THERE ANYONE WHO CAN SHED SOME LIGHT ONTO THIS FOR ME, Thanks loblue

I think buying your own reader or having the OBD codes read might help diagnose the problem, there are several possible causes, but without reading the codes you're throwing money blindly at the problem. Post back with any codes and I'm sure the assembled experts on here will have further advice then.

Google OBDII code reader and you should get some ideas. There are different types and different prices. You want one that will at least read the codes (I think all of them do that) and will reset the codes at a minimum. I believe they sell them at almost any auto parts store. The codes will tell you (and folks on here) what the computers in your car say is wrong. It's usually a matter of experience and interpretation to determine the root of the problem. That's where the experts on here come in.

Sadly not here in the UK I'm afraid.

You have two options lolblue, one that connects to a laptop, in which case search for ELM 327 and don't pay more than around Ł25, bluetooth or USB is up to you. Or you can get standalone readers, I have no experience of them, but if you see one post a link and I'll take a peek at it for you.

The Maxiscan 309? That looks like it'll do the job.

Hi
There is a free Jaguar Shop Repair Manual download on this forum (JTIS21).

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...uctions-54640/

You need 32 bit windows XP or Vista. 64 bit Windows 7 professional or windows 7 ultimate (with XP" mode, and Windows Virtual PC to view it in XP mode). If you have windows 7 premium 64 bit, you will need to upgrade to professional or ultimate and Virtual PC ,xp mode.

A simpler solution is purchasing a PDF Workshop Repair Manual from forum member iguide ($25):
You need to send iguide a private message by going to https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/pr...newpm&u=103789

To order and make payment you will need a paypal account.

Make sure you ask him to include the DTC Summaries PDF files and to combine all the 7 Repair Sections PDFs in one PDF file (this will make it easier to use the search feature that is in Adobe Reader).

Here is a copy of iguide forum posting:

1998-2003 JAGUAR XJ (X308) Workshop Repair Manual available in PDF Format for $25
PDF’s created from TOPIx website in Jan/Feb this year. (TOPIx superseded the JTIS disks-2005 V21 was the last one)
Covers all models including Vanden Plas, Executive, Sovereign, Sport and XJR with 3.2L V8, 4.0L V8 and 4.0L V8 Supercharged Engines.

Comprises 2462 pages divided into 7 sections which are bookmarked for easy navigation:
1 : General Information
2 : Chassis
3 : Powertrain1
4 : Powertrain2
5 : Powertrain3
6 : Electrical
7 : Body and Paint

PDF’s can be viewed/printed on both PC. (including Windows 7 with 64 bit systems)and Apple Mac with Adobe Reader.
Issued via Remote Server Download links

A couple of members have already purchased and Sinister 1 reported:

“I did the download today and it works like a charm. It took me about 20 minutes to download all 7 files.
and at least on my Apple / Mac it's searchable. Plus you can read it on anything that can read a pdf like smartphones, Ipads, tablet computers...
Working on my car just got a whole lot easier.”

Paypal only. PM for further details

Hope this information helps.

If by 'pulls back' you mean fights its way past 30MPH (unless eased through), my car did the same thing earlier this week. Turned out to be the knock sensors, just had a bad connection, but IF that is your problem I think you can get them for about $30 each (you only have 2). But as suggested by the other guys, get the codes read 1st before throwing time and money at it. Good luck.
