Help with Transgo Kit install: parts and fluids
I'm planning on installing a Zf 5hp24 Transgo shift kit on my 2003 jaguar XJ8 due to sometimes clunky downshifting shifting and having to wait for the engine to rev up to about 1200 rpms before accelerating to avoid jolting the drive line. I have the means necessary to do this, but there is a slight confusion over parts and fluids.
As I understand it, I need a Transgo shift kit, transmission pan gasket, and transmission filter.
For such an install, would I also need any valve body gaskets? Additionally, I'm having difficulty sourcing transmission fluid. Where could I buy ZF lifeguard 5, or where could I buy a compatible alternative?

Hi
I had a similar problem.
on a 2001 vanden plas with 5hp24
replacement is pretty straight forward, No valve body gasket needed , I've read horror story's about starving the transmission of fluid with aftermarket filters so I
stayed with ZF filter..
Unfortunately I didn't inspect the valve body well and didn't know about the upper casting that is prone to cracking due to the pressure valve failure. That was my problem you can now get just that part now, as for fluid i bought 5 gallons over a year ago now the price has about doubled.
Shop around or maybe someone has an alternative they can mention. I'm old so I tried and play it safe...lol
I'm not 100% sure if there is anything different in the 2003 and 2001 5hp24...
And the car need to be level when refilling the trans.. ( Important )
maybe this would help.

This guy gary has plenty of videos on the 5ph24. Even on how to replace the pressure valve.
I've spoken with him a few times, he's a good guy just like the guys and lady's on this site.
the key is to be PATIENT. And if possible take pictures of Everything.
