Default How to clean/tighten False Bulkhead Connector?

Do I have to remove a battery terminal before? and what do I use to tighten it? And if dirty, do i just use a wire brush?

I usually replace or clean the power terminal on the false bulkhead with the battery still connected but I am VERY CAREFUL (and I guess I like to live 'on the edge').

The end INSIDE the bulkhead is the power wire so that needs to be removed and INSULATED with a shop rag or something.

A THIN 13mm spanner will get onto the inner nut flats to hold the stud in place.

If you don't care about a P1000 logged in the ECM then remove the battery earth lead.

Just the way I do it and I have NOT been stupid enough (LUCKY?) to touch ground with a tool or wire!!!! I will disconnect the battery if the P1000 is already logged in the ECM.

Livin Like Larry. I guess taking the battery terminal is the safest way. Thank you for the instructions. I appreciate it!

omgimali,

Bob is Superman. If you are not Superman, please, at the very least, disconnect the negative battery cable.

Personally, whenever I'm cleaning any connection that carries battery positive voltage, I disconnect both the negative and positive battery cables as an added security measure. I don't want to mindlessly reconnect the negative cable while I have a positive wire disconnected from its post and touching something that could arc and melt something important.

Cheers,

Don

The ONLY reason to NOT disconnect the battery is if you cannot afford a P1000 to get a car through emission testing. Other wise don't take the chance.

That's a plus of living in SC. No emissions testing!

Don
Today I am Superman. It's my birthday so I am proclaiming it.

I know it is my birthday because I got a message from Jaguar Forums as acknowledgement. (probably just a 'robot' email)

Cheers, Bob. Happy Birthday and thanks for all of you valuable information. If not for you and other members I wouldn't own any Jags because there would be no way I could figure out these cars by myself.
