how much blow by is too much (Nicasil liner)
I drove the 1999 XK8. Starts right up, no smoke, drives well, it maybe did not shift as crisply as I expected but each shift was smooth and consistent.
When I floored it it did not romp as much as I expected but after the test drive I removed the oil filler cap and had the salesman blip the throttle a couple of times. There was definitely an increase in blow by pressure, not a lot but definitely more. The oil spray off the camshaft was almost as bad.
Question is how much blow by is too much? Is any increase in pressure too much?

Jaguar dealers used to have a pice of kit to measure blow-by so it could be compared to vaues for (1) knackered, and (2) OK. Independents shops may also have one, although it will have seen little use in recent years. Most Nikasil engines that have got through this number of years are going to last forever with the elimination of sulphur in petrol in the early 2000s

MotorCarMan, is correct, clean the loaders on the valve covers. Also check the EGR valve for clogging.
When I first got mine XJR, I too was the same way you are. On Youtube vides, the XJR ROORS, when I got mine it just whines (not the SC Whine neiither). After cleaning the loaders and EGR (stumble on that one by mistake, but glad I did) it now ROORS.
The EGR is connected to the rear bottom of the throttle body. The TB has to be removed inorder to get to and clean it. While the TB is out, clean that too.
