Ok so I own a 98 jaguar xj8 and right now it needs the U joints, cv axle, front upper and lower ball joints, as well as the wheel bearings. Pero I already have the ball joints and wheel bearings coming but my main question is how many U joints does the xj8 have as well as the axle. Is there just 1 of each or is there multiple. Might be a goofy question but I'm still new to this car

 

Can i ask why you need all that stuff, did someone drop the car from 2nd floor ?
two uj each halfshaft
one uj propshaft
two bearings each side rear + two small per side
one bearing per side front
three ball joints per side front
if you taking apart front for ball joint replacements add to this list bushes cause it is good moment to replace them

 

So 3 uj altogether?

 

I would read "two uj each halfshaft and one uj propshaft" as 5 in total but that's from someone that knows a little arithmetic and nothing about u-joints...

 

yes five total, but i'm not sure if propshaft one is sold separately from the propshaft itself, you would have to check the forum, or even better check if it is necessary to replace in the first place

 

There are no CV axles in these cars...a CV joint is only necessary on powered wheels that also steer, so front or all wheel drive on the front. The rear axle is a pair of halfshafts that go from the differential to each wheel and each of those halfshafts has two u-joints (as noted above by others). I can't imagine the situation where the halfshafts need to be replaced in addition to their u-joints. Where are you getting the information that you need CV axles?

 

i have hard time to imagine situation where both halfshafts need to have both uj replaced unless Jaji want to renew them as full restoration project

 

I can completely see doing that, just kind of hung up on the CV axle statement and I want to make sure he's not getting service done at a shady garage.
