Default Interesting problem with 02 XJR

I was finishing up after changing the water pump yesterday, when I watched a big shiny black widow run down the windshield, across the scuttle, and disappear into the area around the throttle body. Now the damn thing is lurking down there.

I keep getting EGR codes, so I was planning to take the throttle body out soon! How do I make isure it's safe to work on?

I thought black widows were small.

Yes, I should qualify that - big for a black widow. Maybe 1" with the legs.

Not much chance of that, she knows about the spider. In fact I think she might boycott the garage altogether!

Talstar is a non-flammable aeresol pesticide. You can probably call the company to ask about temperature restrictions.

You need one of them spider vacuums, or just use an ordinary vacuum cleaner.
Be a bit careful when empting it though.

Start the car let it run for 30 minutes or so. The heat should kill it. I would think.

Wife is an expert in California black widows having managed an apartment complex in Sacramento. She says the bug will find a place cool enough to survive even if the car is running you can't get rid of them. Bug spray. Maybe garage too. See thread on removing smoke smell in the car. Bug sprays stinks.
