Jaguar X308 Front Side Light Fix
I noted the passenger side front side marker light was out a week or so ago & looked it up.
Vehicle Care Book, 5-12
5-18 bulb chart
Seems to take 12V 5W capless long life bulb.
To be certain I bought the correct replacement bulb, I wanted to remove it & bring it with me & note any other markings.
Procedure:
Push in the front end of amber assembly — it pops partly out. Now see “V” shaped spring on other side, closest to rear of car. Can carefully use screwdriver but, I used a trim tool & compress the open end of the “V” which faces out & with that done, can pull entire assembly out.
For mine, the bulb & bulb holder had come out of the assembly & fallen down into the bumper! I was able to reach the wiring harness & pull up & out the bulb & holder & then tried the lights & it still worked!
Attempted to replace but saw that some black plastic “ears” had broken off bulb holder so no longer would properly secure. The “ears” on the amber assembly, that accepts the bulb holder, were intact. I probably will need to source a replacement entire assembly since I doubt they are sold separately & likely not expensive. I’d probably just use the bulb assembly part & use my existing 20 year old amber assembly with lens.
I was able to use black electrical tape to better wrap the wiring & secure the bulb holder in place. IDK if it will hold in the AZ heat.
I checked the other (Driver) side & saw that when unbroken, the wiring harness is oriented so it runs back towards rear of car & the wires are horizontal.
It did not easily go that way on the passenger side I was taping. Seemed to require a bit more slack than I had so I just oriented the wires down & towards front of assembly to more easily fit everything.
So far lights still work. I do not know how long it had been broken/out. I regularly check headlights, taillights, turn signals, reverse lights front fog lights & brights in parking lot windows at night. Never thought to check my side marker lights.
If/when goes out again I will get a replacement assembly.

After I posted, I decided to buy that $20 eBay replacement even though my taped fix was still working. I liked the price & the seller made a point to say no chips or scratches & bulb included. Even though I was not going to use most of it. Just the bulb holder. Wanted to reuse my bulb & my amber assembly since worked & were undamaged.
The eBay part arrived today.
We had a break in the heat here today so tonight I decided to go for it & swap it out. The only part of the job I was not sure about was how exactly to remove the bulb holder from the wiring harness.
I confidently pushed in the amber assembly, as I had done b4, with my trim tool ready to compress the V clip & I heard the sound of my V clip falling down into the bumper! I had not even touched the clip! Not going well. OK, I will remove the V clip from the replacement part & put it on mine. I removed my many layers of black electrical tape & twisted & pulled my bulb holder out. I felt brittle plastic break off & sure enough I broke the ears on my amber assembly now! Plus cracked a large chunk of black plastic off on the side. Now I had to use the entire replacement side light; assembly & bulb holder but, I will still use my old bulb which worked. I swaped out the bulbs & b4 I pushed the assembly back into place I tested & it did NOT light up!
I was regretting fixing something that was not broken. My tape probably would have held for years. I coud have saved the replacement part for when/if it ever failed.
I was fairly certain I somehow damaged the wiring.
I decided to test with the replacement bulb & Voila! it lit up! I quickly used a bit of tape on the wires & pushed the assembly back into place easily.
So, I somehow burned out my bulb in addition to breaking my old amber assembly during today's repair. Those old plastics are very brittle. Handle with care!
BTW, for the few people unfamiliar with the wire harness clip, you squeeze together the 2 side metal clips, pushing them tightly against the black plastic, rectangular housing & wiggle & gently pull the bulb holder out & away. The replacement bulb holder snaps into place easily, w/o having to squeeze the clips.
