Default Lead on inexpensive new tires

Does anyone have any good leads on where I can purchase inexpensive new tires online for 2001 XJ8 Vanden Plas? (Inexpensive as in good value for the money.) Any store franchises? I live in Maryland.

Hi evargas7,

tirerack.com is a great place to comparison shop for tires that will fit your XJ8. You can usually have the tires shipped directly to an installer in your area.

I've been running Yokohamas on our '93 for years (third set is on the car now, ADVAN S.4). Great handling, steering and ride, and typically very quiet compared to some other brands.

I would caution you to not purchase tires with a speed rating lower than Jaguar's recommendation even if you don't plan to drive at 150mph. The Jaguar engineers tuned the suspension for the heavier sidewalls of speed-rated tires, and your Jag will not ride, handle or steer properly on tires with less robust sidewalls.

Cheers!

Don

An excellent point, Don.

I would further add for UK members that using tyres of a lower speed rating will invalidate UK motor insurance in the event of an accident.

I have an excellent tire store near me, but it is highly unusual for that to happen.

I'd go Tire rack.

I run Bridgestones and like them, but don't chintz on tires, it's like buying cheap shoes.

Think of it as a critical link from your awesome engineering to the road.

I have Cooper CS4 Tourings from Sears; smooth, reasonably priced ($145 per), M&S rated. N

I agree, there are some good tires out there at less than Jaguar prices. You might also want to check out some of the on-line tire shops as I have found really good deals. Check BuyWheelsToday.com. I have purchased four sets of tires from them that others could not beat.

I second Sears: buy online, schedule appointment, come and have it done. Prices are as good as anywhere and they have price match I believe. Store by me also does free alignment check (with the hope to upsell alignment of course).
