Default Location of knock sensor connector at firewall? 2001 X308 VDP

Title pretty much says it all, KS seems ok, need to check wiring/plug ..where is it located and what would I have to remove to get to it?
New owner not too familiar with car as yet ...

The connector is on both sides of the thermostat housing. Look for the round cap with a 10mm Allen indentation. About 4” down on both sides of that cap. 2 wires in each connector.

Thanks for the reply, I see those individual #1 and #2 connectors are on either side of the thermostat housing but I've heard the wires from both of the KS join into one harness further along and terminate at a firewall plug? That's what I'm trying to locate.

What makes you think that you KS's are OK?
I bought my X308 in limp-mode, and luckily my OBDII reader steered me into the right direction: Knock sensor!
A knock sensor can be pretty expensive (for what it is), but I bought a 10-pack of those on - I think - Aliexpress.
X308 runs fine with it.
Some people are of the opinion that those sensors cannot be good, because they are not expensive - I am more of the standpoint that they are the exact same sensors, which you buy elsewhere, where the price-tag had been massively inflated....

Hi, I have eliminated the bank1 KS as the problem. Have replaced it with an AliExpress unit which ohms out properly. The issue is with the wiring/connections. I need to check the status of the connector at the firewall/bulkhead. Have already identified pinout of the ECU and checked that. The only remaining place to check is where both KS join into one harness/loom and terminate at the bulkhead/firewall into a single connector.

Have a search around on JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource I'm sure one of the electrical manuals shows all the connector types & locations.

Well I did just revisit the electrical guide and from the wiring diagram, the knock, cam and crank position sensors are all part of Pl (the engine harness). Pl27 is the #1 bank KS (B) connector at the thermostat and the secondary connection (on the plug I'm looking for) is at pin Pl1-19 in the engine harness connector. This is the plug I would like to open and clean, if I can locate it.

I thought maybe someone on the forum had unplugged and checked this connector?

just look for the bias voltage. if it’s there circuit’s intact

actually installing aliexpress knock sensor is a beyond dumb idea. might as well not even tilt the manifold and just ziptie the sensors they’re not gonna do anything

Your opinion sir. If you examine them they are exactly the same and probably are the ones ordered and repackaged by Jaguar.

The main engine harness is behind the throttle body, attached to the back of the engine - a black box like item with a bolt through it to keep it connected.
Remove the centre plastic cover showing the wiper motor assembly it will be below that.
If you need to split the connector to clean it, make sure the battery is disconnected.

The problem was determined to be the connector at the thermostat housing. The PO had butchered the connector trying to remove it and in the process compromised its ability to connect reliably.

I repaired the engine harness end by removing the damaged connector and replacing it with an identical connector from my 1994 XJ40 parts stash - the only difference being the original X308 connector contained an orange rubber weather seal. That was easily removed and inserted into the replacement. As the AliExpress knock sensor was new, there was no need to replace the other end of the connector. No more restricted performance.

BTW, the AExp sensor arrived packaged in box contained in a sealed air cocoon and appears to be very well made.

Paid CAN$17.08 delivered. Hard to beat that!

I bet the RockAuto and Amazon ones are from the same maker, maybe in different boxes.
