Default Pulley Upgrades for XJRs

I believe the best pulley to upgrade for more grunt is the lower pulley & as my car still needs the chains doing I plan to get both done at the same time.

However I can't find a definitive answer on what pulley to fit, just that it's off a 4.2 But some things I've read say the 4.2 LR version of the engine has the smaller 4.0 pulley. So can anyone tell me exactly which pulley I should be looking to buy ready for the job?

Thanks,

i used the x350 XJR pulley, which fit fine. That said, its only a little bit larger, so you won't get much of an improvement. Since I have an upper pulley, i didn't want to go nuts on the lower. If you plan to keep the upper stock, I would go with the aftermarket ones.

Thanks, yeah I was going to stay standard at the top to keep things simple.

I've got a Paramount lower pulley I would part with. Thing is you'll need the harmonic balancer machining to fit it. Addicted2Boost has fitted an XFR lower, maybe shoot a PM for diameter. It should go up an inch.
There's a belt you'll need for the extra length.

I found it just brings the torque curve in earlier, no boost raised, it doesn't need it. If an AJ26 motor get the ML steel 4.2 head gaskets fitted, maybe uprated IC pump (Bosch 050) and IC rad, oh and hoses.

Cheers for the info chaps. I'll have to have a good look at the options & decide where to go. I have thought an uprated IC pump is a good idea, I've still got suspicions about mine being tired. It blew several fuses when I got the car & I still seem to lose MPG once it gets hot on a long run, nothing like without the pump but a more mild version of the same thing.

I won't be doing the work, I can't manage such things any more without spending days in pain from a dodgy back & I've only got a rough uneven drive to do stuff on.

Any idea what you'd want for it? I've just spoken to them & it's the same increase as the Powerhouse UK one, so makes sense to buy yours & save a few quid. The garage who will be doing it know old Jags so are aware of the machining requirement.

Looks like paramount are £20 cheaper for the pump, at £155. I'll have a google for the details you gave to see if it's cheaper from another source though.

To kick this thread off again, I've been looking at this advert for the pulley & belt https://ebay.us/m/iafuNJ but unsure about the damper my car has. The advert shows pics of the difference but I can't tell looking at the car, does it have to be disassembled before you can see which sort of damper is fitted?

should be able to see the difference in the front with a mirror.

My 99 had the "does fit" style

I tried that & couldn't tell, guess I'll find out as this arrived from Sean B today.

I'll have to get the uprated pump ordered & then book it in for all the work I want done. Should be ready just in time for cold slippery roads I can't drive it fast on anyway!

If I had to guess what year lower balancers are compatible, I’m guessing the AJ26S engines.
