This one looks like it needs a little TLC, but is probably a good car.

I test drove this one, it is in immaculate condition.

I have been a licensed driver for 34 years and in all that time I have never totaled a car and I have never had something hit my windshield hard enough to damage it.

Black XJR -- Car turns in front of me while I'm going 60mph, car totaled. (less than 2 months ago)

White XJR -- Dump truck in other lane traveling opposite direction; as it passed by large rock hits right in my line of sight, huge star crack in my windshield. Today!! I've had the car about 6 weeks and don't even drive it that often yet what hasn't happened in 34 years happens to my new XJR! What the heck??

I'm a bit put off....

Jeff,
What the heck, string of bad luck follows you. Hope this is the last one. A month ago someone broke into my jag just to steal my 11 year old son's sneakers. They broke the rear passenger glass. I called safelite and it takes them a week just to order the glass so I just went to my local junkyard and got the glass and have it installed, all in a day. Just to let you know I installed the egr valve and 3 days later check engine light comes up again. This is my second used egr valve installed in 3 months. You think it's time to get a new one? Or look for a leak somewhere?

What's the best way to check? I haven't done this before.

I tested mine by starting the car and, while it's still warming up, spray carb cleaner all over the EGR pipe while watching live data for fuel trims. I don't know if that's a "good" way to test it, I'm figuring all this out as I go.

I also sprayed when the engine was up to full temperature and while changing RPMs, but I think that could be dangerous. Wouldn't want to start a fire.

You could remove it and pressure and/or vacuum test it off the car. I did that with the large plastic intake on one of my cars.

Thanks for the recommendation King Charles. They installed my windshield last Wednesday and it really looks great. The pretty new windscreen inspired me to have all the leather in the car professionally cleaned and conditioned as well. I am very pleased with the results.

Just my preference, when I replace EGR, MAF, TPS, or O2 sensors, I will never replace with used parts. It just adds one more variable to the problem instead of narrowing it down. I'm guessing your EGR is still bad and possibly dirty or clogged MAF.
