I've encountered these things on literally every car I've ever worked on. Generally they're all pretty darn close to the same thing, maybe slight differences in diameter, thickness or size of the center bushing. I've found in my parts stash some off a Toyota that would work just fine (slightly different, red in color but critical dimensions the same). However, I was just thinking it seems like these are so incredibly common that you ought to be able to buy pretty cheaply on Amazon or similar an "assortment" of say 20 to 100 pieces in various common sizes to keep on hand. Maybe I'm not using the right search terms, but I not having much luck. All I'm finding is assortments of wire and cable grommets. Anybody seen anything like I'm describing? isolator grommets
Yes, but these seem to me to be like o-rings, cotter pins, j-nuts, etc. Buying them individually as needed from a specialist vendor, I probably wind up paying as much for shipping as I would have spent on a small "assortment" from Amazon prime if it were available. No telling how many times I've had to pay $10 or more shipping for some tiny car part that weighs almost nothing and fits in a small envelope.
I understand what pdupler is saying, often times to buy things like o-rings, cotter pins, j-nuts etc individually ends up costing a disproportionately high price, whereas having an assortment package like MS linked to is not only more economic, but very useful to have on hand in the garage.
Harbor Freight has assortment boxes of hose clamps, grommets, electrical connectors, automobile fuses, circlips etc etc at very reasonable prices which saves in the long run compared to buying individually when you find out you need an item, and is much more convenient too. I have a selection of these in my garage and I am surprised how often I delve into them for auto and general house repair needs.
I listed the link to the specific power steering isolators because in that particular case I thought they were quite reasonably priced for a OEM fit item..................although as pdupler points out, the shipping charges would confound the purchase price!
Check the small parts sections of your local auto parts stores. I have often found items offered as "windshield wiper motor isolators" and similar that work as replacements for the Jaguar isolators. You can use the steel sleeves from your old bushings, and sometimes you need to stack together two of these bushings for some positions. Here's an example:
I think I like CK's answer: they are so damn cheap and readily available, buy the real things!
Couldn't agree more if they really are available and in stock and you can wait several days for them to arrive. If you need to get your car back on the road today, it's good to have options.
I have ordered those GM wiper motor isolator grommets from Corvette Central before, but I was also ordering a bunch of other stuff all at once so shipping wasn't an issue. I don't have one in front of me now, but as I recall they were larger than these Jaguar ones and I was thinking they wouldn't fit. If I happen to find some to compare, I'll post back.
