Default Question about the Boot/Trunk

Hello all, just a quick one this: My boss is convinced that my Boot doesn't work properly on my 2001 XJ8. He thinks that it should lift itself up when I pop it, because his wife's S-Type does this, as does his Mercedes.

I've always assumed what it does now is the correct way, unless anyone here can tell me different (and prove my boss right!! )

Thanks Guys-Stu.

It pops like it was just stated. My dad's BMW does the same thing since it was brand new. Actually the electronic trunk release sounds exactly the same between both cars.

Ah good stuff, so there is nothing wrong with mine then!! However I have mentioned this to my Boss and he reckons if I put stronger struts on the boot it would open it's self. I'm not convinced I imagine there is some sort of weight system on the S Types that make them open. Besides I'm not sure if I'd want it to but it'd be a good mod to add to the XJs, What do you think? S.

Certainly no reason to do it just to please your boss... it wasn't an issue before he mentioned it.

LOL I wasn't going to do it to please my boss, its just that we're both Petrol Heads and were talking about it. Its actually strange that the XJs don't lift their boot lids like the S types, despite them being in production at the same time!!
@ Quad-No one will ever be able to please my boss, ever. He's that kind of boss!! LOL

BMWs are similar, except for those with power trunks that open and close automatically. The 1s, 3s, 6s, and 7s do not fling open all the way, only the 5s do.

The boot opening is handle differant on both models. That like comparing to car makes. The s type uses long adjustable spring the xj does not, an that would be a seriously stout gas strut that short to lift the lid. Maybe you should remind him how large your sedan is and the many other attributes it has that surpass his s

@ Brutal: Beleive it or not I looked at an S type before I bought my XJ, and I really didn't like it. Sure they look ok on the outside, but I really hated everything about the interior!! I really hated the indicator/wiper leavers, and the way the seats were trimmed. The MK2 S-Type was better, however they were all a bit out my price range, the used XJ8 being a much better buy. It was his wife who has the S, he has a Mercedes CLS that is no where near as nice as a Jaguar!!

I suppose the boot only "poppin" open is a good thing, because if I were to accidently press it, it won't open all the way and thevies won't be able to nick all my stuff! (Not that a Theif would want a Bus Driver's jacket, an empty lunch box and a Tyre wrench!)
