Default Quick Head Bolt Question

Hi Folks,

I'm getting ready to reassemble the engine and, obviously, need to replace the head bolts. I understood that the Land Rover bolts are cheaper and looked into them. I found part number 4677857G for all 4.2, 4.4 and 5.0 Jaguar engines. At $35.xx for a set of 10 for 1 head I was pretty pleased. Now for the question: The illustration shows these bolts to be allen head instead of the hex heads that came out of my engine. Is this what I should expect and is there any concern switching to allen head over hex?

If that isn't the right part number, I'd sure appreciate a little guidance into the right one.

Thanks for any help....

Mine were torx head as I recall. T65??? And no, the Torx are probably easier to work with!

Order one to check length, I didn't know they fit 5L too - the Torx head was an upgrade by JLR because the originals round off too easy. They will do the job perfectly if the same length, your original might be ever so slightly longer due to necking on torque down.

That's a good point about the slight stretch....

The bolts are listed as M10 x 175mm TTY which al sounds right. I'll buy 'em and compare.

Take care,

m10 x 175mm is the correct length
Victor reinz and elring also make bolt sets for around US$150.00 for the 20 plus 4 bolts
victor reinz part number is GS33527

Jaguar did issue a TSB and Mandatory Special Tool 303-1077 RIBE bit for the cam sprockets.

There is a difference between RIBE and TORX. They are both 6 point but the similarity ends there.

I don't know if the head bolts are RIBE or TORX but Jaguar has issued this tool.

BMW uses TORX on some heads.
VW/Audi uses RIBE on some heads.

Just thought I would mention this and see if anyone knows what Jag is using.

Check RockAuto for the bolts for a Lincoln LS 2002, FEL-PRO Part # ES72262. For one head, $31.79.

I have used the FELPRO bolts. They work fine (I keep them in stock).
