Default Replace Third Brake Light Bulb in 2001 VDP?

Has anyone done it... or is it the LED type that is not worth trying to replace (so I've heard).

Thank you,

SirJag

Default High Stop Light bulb R&R PDF extracted from JTIS CD

Hi
Here is a PDF file I created from JTIS CD. Shows how to remove and replace the bulbs in the rear high stop light.
To get the best viewing of the pages in this file, use Full Screen Mode option in the Window menu dropdown. While in Full Screen Mode, click any where on the screen and advance to the next page (there are 3 pages). Use the ESC key to return back to the normal display:
2001 XJ high stop lamp bulb R&R.pdf

It looks like an easy task to change the bulbs.

I discarded that huge rattling annoying third brake light with this aftermarket LED light with no problems...

Once again, my "Uncle Jag" comes through with step-by-steps. Thank you, Jim! This is easy enough even for me to do.

Thank you! I might end up doing this, as I never saw mine actually work... it might be more than simply "bulb dead." What kind of adhesive did you use to stick it up... or does it have peel and stick strips?

BTW, the #168 is known to be good, the 5W5 is a newish cross reference number. The #168 also fit the side markers and possibly some of the interior lights, so you might want to get a box of ten.

Now, the #912 is 13 watts over the 5 watts of the #168. It has a bigger globe, but fits in the space no problem and has the correct base. Increased heat dissipation is not really a concern because they aren't lit for very long.

Before someone starts ranting about brighter brake lights ahead of them - that's the point, stay farther back.

BTW, about the LED thing ... if you've never seen the bulbs lit, then you still have to make sure the wiring up to the light works, so it won't solve that problem ... and then if you have tint it probably won't match the cutout.

Comes covered with a peel and stick. Took out the whole awkward Jaguar light, tapped into the wire that it was hooked up to and worked in both XJ8's without rattling, brighter light, cheap fix.

The inside it is much smaller than the unwieldy rattle box that Jaguar designed, much more out of the way.
