I hope that they are not going to shut down over the holiday period!

Is the CUT bit too long to chop off and refit the existing?

No, about a 1.25 inches is involved on a 3 inch hose.

I was on the phone with them at the time you posted.

The initial verbal accounting is "ambitious".

turning into a soap opera Plums, can you not get it out of there? I know it's a tricky extraction, but it sounds like it's a voyage of discovery at your expense....

Default time for a new thread

Got the car back this afternoon.

Is it time for a new thread to avoid polluting this one further?

Both the workmanship and the condition of the car are completely unsatisfactory.

Yes it's clean.

Clean new scratch in the rear quarter. Clean new swirl marks on paint, brightwork and even rubber trim. Even clean buffer burn through.

The battery on the camera is charging in preparation for pictures as crisp and detailed as possible.

edit:

found the first absolutely required fix:

Hi Plums
I hope you paid this repair shop with one of your credit cards. I would call the credit card company and dispute the bill for the repair work that was done.

Make a list of the damages & missing parts that were caused by this repair shop.

I would not have the credit card company paid him until the repair shop agrees to a fair price adjustment.

I also charge extra if there is water in the tank (like the last 2 I have done).

This also includes filter replacement labor.

Hi Bob, i was wondering if you can please tell me
how long it should take to swap a pump on a 1999 XK8 convertible and
what an acceptable hourly rate should be around
which most affordable yet reliable after market pump kit I should get

Thanks alot,
Sid

There really isn't much difference between the XK and the XJ as far as fuel pump replacement parts/labor. They are both accessed in the same way and take the same parts/labor.

Labor rates are completely regional. I charge much less here in a RURAL area but 35 miles away in the city the rate is double!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I usually try to get a DENSO replacement pump because that is what Jaguar uses OEM.

You can find them on eBay or Rock Auto for less than $100.

Hi Bob, thanks for the response, much appreciated.

The reason I was asking about the labor and rate is because a guy down here in FL said 6 hours instead of 3 and he wanted 115.00/hr which I thought 6 hours sounded maybe too much labor time wise and the rate could be better, how much a fair rate would be you gave no indication about when you answered me, thats why I was asking how much would be fair.

I'm probably going to do it myself, but just incase.

I had no idea Jaguar used Denso, good to know!

The Pump or pump kit:
I also was looking at URO Parts C2N3866 around $45 with a 2 year unlimited mileage no hassle warranty, Denso is twice that pricewise, and half of UROs warranty, offering only 1 year, ever hear about or use URO Parts, any thoughts on it?

Also I think i might have read Denso uses a turbine type system, I don't know what A.P.A. Industries/URO parts uses.

At the link shown below it seems URO Part makes a nice representation about themselves and the pump, but I would also have to seperately buy a strainer, not sure which strainer to get, they seem to range from 5 bux and up on ebay or $23 at fcpeuro, and then I would also have to reuse the original wiring, unless new wiring can be found cheap.

URO Parts Link: https://www.fcpeuro.com/#/products/j...-parts-c2n3866

Please let me know what you advise.

Thanks alot, much appreciated,
Sid

I have used the URO pump and the connector is the exact Jaguar one for the link lead. The pump also fits EXACTLY as the original.

If the replacement DENSO is used you will have to use the electical adapter provided in the kit. You will also have to modify the rubber mount isolators with a sharp knife to trim the excess around the top and bottom inserts.

I charge 3 or 4 hours (depending on the amount of fuel in the tank and level of corrosion if any) but I have done MANY fuel pumps since the 1990 MY sedan introduction of pump-in-tank.

A shop's labor rate is rarely open for discussion but the 6 hour estimate might be a result of past experience with a difficult tank extraction and pump replacement.
It might also be that they never replaced one and there is a 'learning-curve'.

Hearing stories about being unable to reach or disconnect the fuel lines from the tank bottom might be the reason for the time estimate.

Some people just charge a lot because THEY CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Bob, it sounds like the URO Pump may be the way to go considering the lower over all price, the better warranty, and fitment.

So all I will need are the URO pump and strainer right?

Should I just reuse the original/used other parts ?

Any suggestions about which strainer is good yet cheapest?

Thanks alot, much appreciated,
Sid

You will need to re-use the pump mount bracket. You cannot get one without buying a complete tank assy.

Just get a replacement filter screen, any of them should fit.

Hi Bob, I think i saw in pics that there is pump wiring inside the tank attached to the pump, is it okay to reuse those or are they available cheaply?

I also noticed there are 2 plugs a top the tank connected to the pump at the blue round plastic, a black plug and white plug. I tested the brown yellow striped wire of the black plug and it lights up the test light for a few seconds then shuts off.

Should I also test anything else like a white plug wire or any other that may be causing the pump not to come on?

Thanks alot,
Sid
