I am having this occur on my 2001 XJ8 VDP currently.

I got this (below) from a website. Just wanted to know if anyone is having this occur or did and had it repaired and if this is a valid answer?

Answer:

When you get the 5 second steady beep it's the error tone. This is most likely caused by a faulty sensor. This will be difficult to diagnose without the Jag scan tool but what you can do is turn the key to the ON position and put the trans in reverse without the engine running. Make sure you apply the parking brake and chock the wheels. Put your ear to each sensor and you should hear a clicking noise. Also I see a lot of problems with water leaking into the trunk and going in the parking aid module located underneath the trunk bottom liner. If you see corrosion in the connector and module then the module may need to be replaced and the connector cleaned.[/color]

Guess mine is broke as well bc i get the same noise..personally, i dont care as i know how to drive, but its still an annoyingly loud noise when you go into reverse.

That sounds correct, and the procedure for finding the bad sensor with the 'ear test' is what Brutal recommended in another thread. Did you turn the key to 'on' (engine not running) put your car in reverse, and go back and listen to each sensor for the clicking? It should be easy to find the bad one.

 

Good information to know. My Jag also has the long beep. I'll check for the bad one this evening.

 

This method works...got to the fourth sensor and not clicking. Right on! Will clean or replace.

Ok, I forgot to ask, is a clicking sensor good or bad?

If good, I have 3 good ones and 1 bad.

Clicking = good

Silent = bad

Replacement I think is pretty easy, don't have my JTIS to check right now, but its a wiring clip and then removal...just don't know about how detailed the 'removal' part is.

 

the removal took me about 10 seconds..very easy actually at least if all you have to do is remove the part that like plugs into the other part..i cleaned it up and plugged it back in..still no clicking..

whats the next step? is there a part we can buy to do this ourselves? like a new sensor?

Could also try Dan at Nalley Jaguar, and see if they have any in stock. Not a cheap item.

 

This happened to me once, but I discovered it was a little tiny bit of a leaf stuck in the sensor, making it think something was there. If you wanted to stop the sound, the speaker for the system is under the parcel shelf.

 

I can order a new one for about $155 or used for $75. Really nothing to replacing them. Used does have a 99 day warranty.
