Question Slight Wheel Wobble Under Braking

Good Morning All,

I hope you can help me! At around 50-60mph if a start to gently brake, I can feel the front wheels start to wobble slightly and I can also feel it through the steering wheel. I can also occasionally hearing a light knocking sound at the base of the steering wheel!

Any Ideas or has any one else had this problem before? Wheel Balancing? Track Rod Ends?

I noticed the issue a couple of weeks ago and always seems to be the same, only notice it after 50mph or so.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Wobble while braking would indicate one or both front brake rotors may be warped. If there is no wheel wobble except when braking.

I had vibration when braking that went away after I replaced my front upper shock mounts.

Brake Discs (Rotors) are the prime suspects, but if you're underneath and checking things, you might as well check tie rod ends on both sides (inside and out), plus steering rack bushes and bolts.

I think that under braking, the loads tend to transfer through these points. Check the brakes themselves and work back maybe?

Many thanks for the suggestions.

I had ruled out brakes as they are only 4 months old, but I will have a look and work my way back.

Thanks! That's a good suggestion as these look very tired and as though they need replacing!

Thanks avern1, I initially thought this, but ruled this out as the brakes were only replaced 4 months ago.

I understand that you replaced the brake discs (and also pads) with new ones. Warped or unevenly worn brake discs would produce vibration, not wobble. You will need to inspect the front suspension bushes and ball joints for wear and play.

Might check wheel nuts for proper torque. Jack front wheels off the ground and check for play in wheel bearings.
