I'm replacing all of them, LNC4140AA (Phillips) is pictured. Shopping around I see Harmon Kardin and Alpine speakers with different letter suffix letters on the part numbers. Are they interchangeable? Which is better?
Are used ones from 20 year old cars? I'd prefer new but I'm pretty cheap. The new don't seem much more expensive than the old but they may be lower quality.?
Any suggestions?
I just got a new Footloose cassette from Goodwill for 49 cents! I need some proper speakers.
You don't have to do anything with the grills, leave the originals and I didn't install the tweeters, left the originals, mine were good. The interface plates are super simple and the speakers drop right in. Its about a 20 minute job per door, most of it applying the new connectors and removal/install of the door cards.
Crutchfield is extremely friendly and more than customer helpful. Whether you call them directly or chat online, they can make recommendations for other speakers if you want them to and don't wish to wait for restock, so don't be afraid to contact them...awesome folks.
I ordered two pair of these from Crutchfield. The sales guy,(very nice) assures me that 6 3/4 will fit, front and rear, just like 6 1/2. Ill have to do some soldering. 50 USD each pair, free shipping in about two days.
I'm a little skeptical about the fit but we'll see
Here is a comparison of stock speakers from a 2001 VDP SC compared to new top of line or higher end (2 years ago) Alpine 6.5 components.
I put them in with R tweeters, stock everything else and sound was better. Worth all the time and energy? not sure. I may still have them in my basement.....
I just replaced my door speakers with a set of Alpine SPR-60s that I picked up a couple years ago. Perfyfit replacement, no retainer or bracket needed. I snipped the wires and used crimp connectors although would have used adapters if I had then handy.
I got the Crutchfield 6 and 3 /4 installed and they sound fantastic. I'm rocking in the free world. I drilled new mounting holes and screwed them to the door panel with the same screws. The leads, provided by Crutchfield , fit perfectly, no soldering. Thanks for the help.
BUT. replacing the door latch cable was, and still is a disaster. (will discuss on another thread. )
I used Focal Access components in mine, 6 1/2" woofers and fit perfectly, no mods except some minor wiring. Best car speakers I ever had. While you have the door cards off consider adding some Dynamat for better sound deadening and acoustics.
