Default Starting issues

2003 xj8 has intermittent starting issues. No codes currently but the car will just click when you try to start. Battery and alternator are good. If you sit long enough it will fire up like nothing is wrong. Any ideas would be appreciated

check the large positive lead at the ecu housing under the toolbox for tightness and contact with terminal post
if all tight then you may have issue with immobilizer
my 3¢

I'll give that a try and let you know my findings. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ok so I checked the cable and everything seems good there. I also checked the ground cable at the rear of the passenger front tire. It was good too. I replaced the starter thinking it's just a solenoid going bad. It's just 2 bolts but the top one is the worst. I removed the air tube to the alternator and the oil filter (changed oil while I'm already under the car). This allowed me to put a 13mm socket on an extension and get to that bolt. Haven't had an issue yet. I hope that does the trick.

Hopefully, that solves your problem. I had the same issue with my XJ and it ended up being the power block/terminal in the boot. There was some corrosion there and one of the nuts was a little loose. Cleaned that and tightened everything up and then no more problems.

Check to cable nuts on the power protection module located by the battery

The starter solenoid relay can also be intermittent
