I changed to oil in my supercharger today. Not difficult, but I did have to make a special sized tubing attached to a 2 oz syringe to get into the fill hole and suck out the old oil.

I stepped the tubing down from 1/4" or so to about 1/8" using heat shrink tubing. Anything bigger than that wouldn't get far enough into the hole to be able to remove the old oil. It is about the same outside diameter as the red tube on a can of WD-40.

THIS IS IMPORTANT: You also have to stick the tube in the fill hole at a downward angle. If you try to put it straight in, it hits something and you won't get be able to get all of the oil out of the supercharger. Folks who say they could only get 2 oz or so of oil out are using too big a tube and sticking it straight in. (I know, don't go there! LOL)

I was able to get 7 oz. of old oil out of the supercharger and it was the color of very, very dark coffee. My car just turned 60K miles.

I used almost two 4 oz bottles of GM supercharger oil from my local Chevy dealer, $10.89 a bottle plus tax.

When you do it, pack the area below the fill hole with paper towels to catch the overflow when you fill. A flex drive for the 3/16" hex bit would have been nice to have too because it is very close quarters when the fill hole drain plug is being removed and installed.

Oh no, Plums, you got me! I read that thread before I did mine. LOL.

I do think I added some good info though......photos, prices, flex drive, proper insertion, ect.

The flex drive might not be the way to go. What is needed is the ball end version of the hex key. It's the same principle as a wobble extension in that it allows insertion into the hex at an angle.

 

I have used mobile jet II oil for the superchargers on my AMG mercedes. I think the same company makes the jag superchargers also. How come you used GM oil? Is there a way to find out what the factory would use?

 

Jaguar use Eaton's formula and at £30 a bottle x2, on back order everywhere, from a German supplier, no wonder the GM stuff is used. It's the same stuff, just 2/3rd's cheaper.

 

In addition, the GM superchargers are Eaton superchargers. Both the M90 and M112.

It's an open "secret" on all of the Mustang boards. The GM oil is even cheaper than the Ford oil, which is also often on backorder.

Walk in to any GM dealer, ask for it and the parts guy won't even need to lookup the part number.

Don't know why everyone says it smells bad though.

Thanks to this thread, i was able to get another 1.8 oz of fluid using the wd-40 straw and a smaller syringe I had lying around. The 1/4 diameter tube did the first 4.5 oz, but couldn't go to the 'left' of whatever obstruction was directly in front of the fill hole. The straw did, and found another sump area over there containing fluid.

 

Nothing is sealed for life if you have a drill or a big hammer

 

If you know why I mentioned that, you'd understand where I'm coming from, I rebuild them, and not with big hammers

 

Hitting this job in the next week. I noticed in Jaguar world magazine that a company in the UK is doing a complete service kit for this in syringe and pipe work. Thanks for all the info guys.

 

Does anyone have any idea if this procedure is possible to do on the AJV8 supercharger? I have an '07 XKR and I think I'm having some supercharger noises that I want to try to solve by changing the fluid.

 

Same supercharger ... updated generation.

But, if it's a rattling noise ... that would be the coupler ... check ebay for replacement kits.

 

That would be one of the drive gears or possibly the coupler.

 

What do you think this noise is?


I know there is powersteering noise, but I think the whirring sound is different.
