Default Those hard to find replacement cats

Looks like I may need to replace the left side cat on my '01 VDP SC. The problem is the dealer tells me it is p/n NNC6701JB which is no longer in production.

I called a few other dealers and this seems to be the case. I wonder if anyone knows if the cats on the XJRs will fit? I believe they are still available. Baring that, I wonder if their is an after market cat company out there that makes a decent cat? I have heard the majority of the rebuilt cats don't have the quality of the OEM variety.

I've seen several salvage VDP's on craigs list and eBay. Not sure if they have the same part you need or not. Good luck

Looks like this place has them - http://www.converterwarehouse.com
and they're not real expensive. Where the heck did you get a VDP SC ? I didn't think they were sold in the U.S. I would guess an XJR cat would work, if there is any difference between the SC and the N/A engine.

Yes, supercharged is different. Interesting that Ebay is selling them. It's a $10k for selling used cats unless they have been recertified by the EPA as good. I do have a recertified unit for $550.

His is supercharged, so XJR cat will fit, although a new one would still be expensive.

If you're going aftermarket, this may interest you:

Thanks for all the posts. Looks like the outlook is not as bleak as I thought.

VDP SC? I guess this was the precursor to the Super V8 cars which if I am not mistaken still say "Vanden Plas" on the wood trim of their center vent. Not sure if there is much difference between the VDP SC and Super V8's other than the year of production.

is your car a long wheelbase, with seat controllers on the back of the front seats for passengers? extra chrome? if so, probably is what you say, and came before the Super V8.

While I was looking for my XJR, I came across one in Portland. Same model and year. I didn't bother looking at it because it was in pretty rough shape, but it was quite intriguing non the less.

Yes, the VDP SC has the LWB and pretty much looks like a VDP on the outside except for the 17" wheels and the XJR style exhaust tips. I would guess it is a little heavier than the XJR so probably doesn't quite have the performance numbers either. That said, the performance is really impressive for a luxury car.

Surprisingly the VDP S/C is listed as weighing 75 lbs. less than the XJR in the driver's handbook supplement that came with my '01. That seems like the numbers were reversed when printed so maybe the VDP is 75lbs. heavier. The long wheel base XJ* is listed as only 45 lbs more than the base car.

My VDP S/C seems every bit as fast as an XJR that I drove. I really like the 17" wheels on my '01

Unfortunately my factory wheels had seen better days when I got the car. I thought of putting 18" XJR wheels on but I really liked the softer ride of the 17".

Instead I got some nice Jaguar like 17" wheels from the driven man. I'll post a pic this weekend.
