Default Urgent Help unlocking - Engine running

Hi

Please can anybody advise?

I have an XJ8, year 2000. The engine is running, but the drivers door seemed to lock and now we cannot get in to switch it off. No spare key.
Boot is open.

Any idea?

Thanks

You can stop the engine if you pull the fuel pump relay out, one of the two shown on the diagram below (the relay board is next to the battery).

I was thinking to disconnect the fuel pump, but the relay pull is a great idea. Thanks.

Will try.

When I worked at the dealer, most of us mechanics could open the X308 front door with a small wood wedge and a section of plastic 'band strap'.(the kind used to band boxes and crates)

Fold the plastic strap in half and wedge the door open slightly at the top rear.
Slide the folded strap in at the top and work it down to the lock post.
It is 'hour-glass' shaped and you just use the two ends to steer the band around the lock post, pull back HARD and the UP!!!!!!!!!

Won't take more than a few minutes.

Bob's trick makes you want to keep some box band strip on hand and what I found is if you use the rubber blade insert steel strip of a wiper blade and insert it from the top glass edge down to the hole the lock plunger fits through you have a guide to lasso the lock plunger

The wiper blade of a X300 / X308 is too short so you have to grab a longer one from a auto parts store trash can

Bob saved me as I was " out of configuration " once and only once

You have access under the hood?? Just disconnect the battery it will be live you so you want to use thick rubber gloves and a clean rag and disconnect the positive terminal that will shut it off quick. Another alternative is to pull one of the fuse relays out actually that might be better as you won't risk shock pulling out the plastic relay.

If that isn't' the case and I misunderstood and your "hood" isn't open, you can use the duck-tape method to open the window... This should work police use it (and thieves) all the time lol

After you are done that just get rid of the residue on the window with goo b gone lol.

It kept running off of the power from the alternator.
Needed to pull the fuel pump relay.

Very interesting video. I will wait and see if the key works when it arrives.
If not, this is an option.

Yes, disconnecting the battery won't stop the engine. You have actually done the alternator test - if the engine is still running after battery disconnect, the alternator is good.

Well I have tried this plastic strap method multiple times now and had no luck at all, simply cannot figure it out.
Even compared to another X308 and still totally stumped what to actually do. I see the concept, but impossible to do, may as well be blindfolded in the dark.
Any other plans?
Key still in the car, but the engine is now off.

Thanks

Wire coat hanger is what I used before on other cars.

Sorted it out now.
Call Jaguar dealer, provide info, get key serial number, call locksmith, give key serial number, collect key, part with £20, test. All ok.
