Default Using the Lincoln LS Valve cover set

I saw in an older post that the Lincon LS shares the same valve cover set as the 4.0L XJ8. Is this correct? So a 2005 3.9L Lincoln LS valve cover gasket set will work just fine? Mine are weeping pretty bad including the VVT gaskets. I saw a FEL-PRO for a 2000 Lincoln LS - ok to pull the trigger?

why not just buy Jaguar valve cover gaskets?? the aftermarket ones from rockauto (MAHLE VS50397) for only $50.79?

It lists on rockauto for a 2000 only up. Mine is a 1999 - will it fit? I did order a MAHLE for a Lincoln LS 3.9L which strange enough slightly more expensive...but I suspect is exactly the same part, no?

1999 was the last year for the AJ26 engine (yours) after that they introduced the AJ27 and they will not fit. The changes were subtle but first off the VVT solenoids were moved. I also think one of the camshaft position sensors was eliminated. I do know that the seals around the coil/plug wells is a different configuration on the AJ27.
I was a victim of having the wrong gasket set shipped to me once.

Hi edreddy,

Like omgimali I didn't understand why you were looking at Lincoln LS parts, but after reviewing the listings at Rock Auto I understand. They don't list any valve cover gaskets listed for your 1999 XJ8.

A good place to check whether 2000 valve (actually camshaft) cover gaskets will fit your 1999 is jaguarmerriamparts.com, according to which, the same gaskets fit all N/A 4.0L X308s from 1999 to 2003. The Jaguar part numbers are AJ88285 (left) and AJ88400 (right) for the cover gaskets. The spark plug tube seals are AJ87206. I didn't go hunting the grommets but the Mahle gasket kit includes them as well.

According to Mahle, their kit VS50397 fits a 2000 Lincoln LS 3.9L and a 2000 Jaguar XJ8 4.0L N/A, and it comes with the cam cover gaskets, spark plug tube seals and cam cover grommets for both banks. And to top it all off, Mahle is an OEM to both Jaguar and Ford, so this kit should work just fine.

Cheers,

Don
