the story goes.....

last week I took my car for a wash, and while waiting noticed attendant fiddling with passenger seat position buttons...
few days ago went to lunch with coworkers and my passenger complained that seat not moving... I quickly connected the two: something got disconnected during car wash.

So today I decided to fix it. First reached under the seat and jiggled all connectors - nothing... went to check fuses - could not quite figure fuse numbering on driver side - so checked all of them - all good !? Unbolted the seat and started pocking into connectors with voltmeter - no juice coming to connectors... ???

Carefully looked into care book to locate correct fuses... on passenger side amperage followed the book so I could figure fuse numbers. On driver side - it just did not match the book. After some aerobics i took a look inside - and what do I see? Fuse number 1 simply missing and fuse under it has yellow cover on it making it look like fuse 2 is the first one. The very fuse responsible for passenger seat is missing! It turns out I bought the car like that(well, about 2 months ago), never tested passenger seat! So I put fuse in - and all is working!

The moral: I should have carefully followed the manual when checking fuses, before unbolting the seat and doing other things...

Well, I didn't do it yet but I bought the parts:

1x Throttle body complete (used)
1x Short hose between thermostat tower and crossover water pipe
1x MANN oil filter
10l of 10w40 semisynthetic oil
1l of Prestone antifreeze concentration

Got a fair bit to do to my old banger... When all done, it should finally be the car it should be...

Was having intermittent heat issues, and watching my temps, it was swinging in a 15 degree arc between stopping and not, so I assumed thermostat. So, I replaced it and topped off the fluid with bright shiny Dex. I drove down the road to warm it up, come back, pop the cap, and green fluid is staring at me.

I'm not happy with whoever owned this before me. I just flushed the system until I had nothing but clear distilled water top to bottom, filled with the correct DexCool orange, and... nope, still no heat unless the car is under load. Time to go back to searching posts again...

I have read that coolent can look green in the reservoir even if it is an other color. No personal experience though.
There is a drain on the engine block if you really want to get everything out before a refresh.
Did you burb the hoses?
I checked the new against the old thermostat before installing, just to be sure.

It was definitely some green in there when I drained it. It didn't look like much, but it was noticeable for a bit. I'm leaning towards maybe that secondary pump, haven't had much time to research that side yet. But I do have plenty of heat over 2k RPM, in every vent location, but under that, I lose it again, so I'm thinking either a core issue (but I'd think that would eliminate any cabin heat?) or that pump, or something. I should have a couple weeks before it really gets too cold, so we'll see.

Is there low heat or no heat at all at low rpm's? I'd think with a blocked core there's at least be something getting through. I dunno too much about cooling diagnosis, and it seems like something that shouldn't be rpm-related, but maybe it's the valve that regulates flow into the heater core?

I also remember reading somewhere that the climate control doesn't open the heat up until the coolant reaches a certain temp.. Again shouldn't be rpm related, and it may only do so when in AUTO mode, and I can't remember if that's x308 or x350..

It's no heat at low RPM. For example, if I was climbing a long hill, and was under a decent rpm load, it'll heat ok, other than it loses a little effectiveness if I crank the blower speed up. But if I were to then slow to a stop, as soon as the load is gone and the rpms drop down, the airflow goes cold. Doesn't matter what setting, I've tried temps all through HI, auto, recirc on/off, nothing changes it. I thought I was reading about the auxiliary pump and hearing it running when it's working, and I certainly didn't hear anything from it or feel any vibrations from it when I was tinkering, but with needing to keep it intact for work today, I didn't get a chance to pull it. I figure I'll try to find a replacement for that, and maybe the valve, so next weekend I can pull things apart, back-flush the core and see if I can get those fixed too. Might as well, it's at 162k miles, no sense in not replacing them if I'm already in there.

Sounds like the auxiliary pump to me, take it apart, clean it and lube it. This is what I've had to do on both my previous cars, quick and easy fix.

Received my long awaited roof spoiler last night, only to find out that not only the roof of a LWB is different (something I knew), but also the rear window curvation (something I obviously never realized ).
Back to the drawing board ...

Default Failed Emissions P0400

So, took apart the EGR system and cleaned the hell out of it! Carbon plugged up the valve and the elbow....Done with pride and it was so rewarding! Wait for a bit to make sure it's fixed and then retest 😄

Smile Nice

Today I washed my car and gave it a very thorough polish, for a car that's nearly 17 years old it looks pretty good, I will try to upload some photos soon.
Be lucky everyone
Andy

Went out, pulled the reservoir off (annoying f'n clips...), and the aux pump. Flushed the heater core back and forth a couple dozen times from Sunday to ensure it was clear, and then pulled the pump apart.. and, there are pretty much no brushes left at ALL in this thing. Time to find those threads with people that have replaced the brushes and give it a go (not that I have any joy in pulling it all back apart again when the time comes).

Refilled, checked for leaks, still only heat when over 2500 RPM, I'm glad they're calling for mid 50's this week.

Good information on brush replacement on a very similar pump from an XK8 at post 13 - https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...val-how-96841/

Excellent link, thank you much for that! I might look for a used pump in the meantime, and order new brushes, and take my time rebuilding mine in my spare time (and in the house without being pressured for time). It's my daily so I don't want to chance something going wrong with the rebuilding and leaving me stuck. But that's a perfect writeup (and thank goodness not nearly as involved as that XK seems to be to get the pump out! Heck at this point, I think I can even get it out without pulling the reservoir next time.

Had valley hoses replaced because they were leaking. New U joint is on order as well.
Can anybody recommend a bike rack from experience? Has anybody used a roof rack?

Roof racks destroy the trim around the edge of the roof... Either a hitch rack or a bootlid/trunklid rack is the best choice.

Back to topic

I managed to delete all hiddennfault codes yesterday after finally beimg able to enter the car's system. Maybe runs better now...

Apart from driving the car which is a very nice place to be, nothing but weather permitting will clean the inside tomorrow,
Take care
