Default Where Is the Best Place to Get Parts?

Air filters... oil... parts of any kind for the XJ8? Online preferred, of course.

Thank you!

Default I have a few different favorites

Engine Oil is Walmart - Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil - 5 Qt Jug $24.50 is $4.90/qt.
New battery - maxx-49n $80.00 plus tax

Advanced Auto Parts - Prestone Dex-Cool - 3) 1 gallon Jugs $26.40
Promo code A123 ($20 off $50). Also Spark Plugs - 8) NGK Iridum
BXR6EIX-11 total $36 and 2) Mobil 1 Dextron/Metrcon AT used as power
steering fluid total $12. Engine Oil Filter - Bosch premium $6.
Pocket Code Reader $30 (usual retail $60).

Auto Parts Warehouse - Bremo OEM Front & Rear rotors and Akebono ceramic pads $438

tirerack.com - 4 new Michelin X-Ice Xi2 Ice and snow tires $524 less
$70 American Express rewards card

Tom's Foreign Auto Parts (Waterbury CT) - 4 used XJ8 rims $180 (they have a website and are also on Ebay.

I have to add Towne Fair Tires - I used them to buy Kumho Grand Touring All Season tires - they brought their prices down to match Tire Rack discounted price and its $50 American Express rewards card. It was just easier to buy and have tires installed there for the same cost.

Costco warehouse club - Tires and Tire changeovers.

Rock Auto Parts and Race Pages on the internet.

I have a very good relationship with my local Jaguar dealer (wholesale parts pricing) so for many parts I use my dealer. You can get the same wholesale pricing from a couple of the online Jaguar dealers.

I buy a lot of parts from Autohaus in AZ even though I am on the east coast -- they have free shipping after $50.00. Generic stuff like spark plugs or a situation where the factory part is crazy expensive - very common with my german cars. I also use RockAuto -- just bought a bunch of exhaust parts from them for a Nissan Pathfinder. Also don't forget Amazon -- purchased the Jaguar 02 sensor and a O2 tool for about $100 - The dealer pricing is crazy for this kind of repackaged part.

For oil I get Mobil 1 when it goes on sale locally as shipping any type of fluid normally eliminates any savings. I have more than one car that uses it so I always have some around. The PS system uses dextron so that is easy get. I did just get a case (12) of Nissan factory fluid off of e-bay for $60.00 I have noticed some interesting pricing for the Tensioners and transmission fluids used in the Jaguars on e-bay.

I keep my cars for a long time so for the most part I don't mess with cheaper aftermarket parts - with the long interval I don't see the savings. I use the Jaguar coolant and distilled water - Jaguar oil filter etc.

Many of my cars transfer to my company for its use so as they age things do change. Recently I needed to get rotors and pads for an older Lexus - while I was able to get the Lexus pads online for $44.00 a set the OE rotors were about $100.00 each - Autohauz had high quality Brembo rotors for less than $50.00 each w/free shipping! It did not make sense to spend the extra on this car ....... although I still stick with the OE fluids.

I just bought front rotors and pads from my dealer -- I think the rotor set was $275.00 and the pad $95 - I can't remember exactly. But my car only has 50k on it -- so I don't want to play around with aftermarket parts at this point.

Tires are always a crap shoot on the XJ -- I have tried many.

Good Luck

I have to plug our forum sponsors JPAM (Gaudin Jaguar) and Nalley Jaguar also. I use Gaudin because they have an online parts system, WITH diagrams, so I know i'm getting the right parts. Then again, I also use Nalley Jaguar since they give a 15% discount to jaguar forum members, and they ship free with anything over $25 (using UPS ground). I bought a 6-pack of OEM oil filters when nalley was running a special...they will often have spark plugs and other 'regular' maintenance specials also.

When I absolutely need OEM parts, these two are the only ones that I trust, and they are always the lowest price tag online...trust me, i've searched, they're within 10% of each other's prices...after shipping. Calling Nalley Jaguar is always a pleasure, and they ask tons of questions, to make sure i'm also getting the correct item. Can't go wrong either way.

I use Welch for those cars as they have A lot of spares besides NOS
The dealers are fading away for the old XJ8 as they are becoming old news........

I think Jim must have meant BKR6EIX-11, which are the Iridium equivalents of the OE Platinum plugs for the AJ26 engines. BKR5EIX-11 is the Iridium equivalent for the AJ27 engines.

Note that until gtjoey's post this thread had had no activity since 2011.

Cheers,

Don

Rockauto.com is a great first stop for online service parts in 2019. Welsh is still good for Jag specific parts, but check E-bay, because they and other sellers sell the same parts cheaper on E-bay, sometimes.

Default Wrong Plugs?

So I've got the wrong plugs? in my AJ26
would this have contributed to bad spark color I don't think affected to start as I had the original plugs in that were running and even not starting

The difference being the manufacturing date cut off for the two different engines.
AJ26 09/97 - 09/98 JAGUAR XJ8 3.2L V8, MPFI, DOHC, 32V, 179kW, 316Nm
Recommended Plug BKR5EVXA-13 Plug gap1.1mm
AJ27 09/98 - 03/00 JAGUAR XJ8 3.2L V8, MPFI, DOHC, 32V, 179kW, 316Nm
Recommended Plug PFR5G-13E Plug gap 1.1mm

on the Rego papers, it says
Model # XJ897A
Chassis # SAJJJALG3CR820012
Engine # AC9710011940

eBay and Advanced Auto Parts seem to have great price plus Advanced doesn't charge del on orders over $25 that I've seen anyway

Some shops for those in EU:
jaguarclassicparts, sngbarratt, jagspares, mosseurope (ebay), berkshirejagcomponents,
not jag specific
brit-car, rimmerbros, martinrobey
justjags (never shopped there), britishparts.co.uk (after few junk parts stopped shopping there but seems popular store)
