I have a 1998 xj8 vanden plas, getting locally sourced parts near me is few and far between. In the 5 or 6 years I have been looking, I come across lots of Xtypes and Stypes, a handful of 1980s xj6 and surprisingly a few XK8s - but in 6 years I have only come across 2 xj8 parts cars (1 at a specialty salvage yard -where the guy names his prices by picking the highest ebay price and adds 30% - then tells you its a good deal because you don't pay shipping and by pulling it yourself you get to see how to install it

Anyways I have a lead on a 1997 XK8 parts car.
will the original XK8 rims (245-50-r17) plug and play on my 98 xj8 ?

my xj8 has the high speed stall issue (go over 50mph and hit the breaks and the car shuts off - its known recall with the throttle body, but my vin was 30 cars over the recall number) will the 97XK8 throttle body work on my XJ8 ?

if anyone in western NY needs seats for an XK8 - these looked pretty good in the pics (I will see the car in person in a few days and could give a better status report if anyone wants it)

The bolt pattern and center hub size are the same, so yes, they should be fine.

 

Thanks guys, I think I will get them. Any worries that the difference in offset from an XK to an XJ would demand spacers ? and no concerns of the 17 inch tire rubbing fenders since original wheels on the xj are 16 ?


I am guessing the 97 XK throttle body should work on my XJ but the pictures I have seen of the XK TB it looks a bit more corroded than mine and I can't see any tags or labels - but with the high speed stall issue it seems the only solutions are a salvaged one or new, and the new ones are more than the cars sell for

 

I was getting ready to go get the wheels and throttle body, maybe even the abs from the XK to use on my x308 but I was poking around some old posts here that mentioned a company called ASI (they rebuild TBs and other modules) and based on their website I am starting to wonder if some of the XK modules are NOT are compatible with XJ

For example on ASI a 97-04 XKR ABS module is $419 while a 97-04 XJ8 ABS is $519 - even though they look identical evidently they are not interchangeable

They don't have throttle body in my years to see if XK and XJ are compatible BUT they do indicate the TB they have is only good for 99-2003 - So it doesn't look like the 97 and 98 TBs are the same as the 99 -2003

Can anyone verify that the TBs and ABS are different for the 98 models from all other x308s ?

 

I believe there are some minor differences (hose connections and so forth)
It is usually best to get a repair done to your stock throttle body. Here is a link.

It says 1999, however they repair 1998s as well.

 

all AJ26 and AJ26.5 tbs are the same thing.
