Work wants to put a small magnet badge on our cars
As titled they want to put a small/2 inch x 5 rectangular badge on our trunks to distinguish staff @ the gate, parking lot etc. I just had my car painted a year ago so I'm not gung ho on this development. Anything I can do to prevent any forthcoming damage ?! Maybe a film/felt on the magnet contact side ?!

Hi KC,
That's definitely a dilemma. I wonder if you could persuade the powers that be to allow you to lay the badge on the parcel shelf inside your backlight?
One of the things I've noticed about magnetic emblems on cars is that dirt and road grit tends to collect around the edges and if the magnet should move (such as when the car is being washed), that dirt and grit can scratch your paint. So if they insist that the badge must go on the paintwork, you should remove it every time you wash the car, then reinstall it afterward.

I'll be curious to hear what ideas others have.
Cheers,

Yea my plan is to only use it while at work & remove other times. I know that may get tedious though.
Is this readable through the glass? Nothing says it has to be attached to the car, put it in the rear window (similar to what Don said) but use semi clear velcro, but don't use the fuzzy side. Take two rigid sides and stick them together face to face (cut size variant on weight of device, take into account bumps, etc.., I use 2 strips for curvature), attach to the magnet and stick to an unobtrusive area of glass.
What would the company do if you owned Jaguar X350??(issue you an aluminum magnet?)
bob
The company's Constellis, a billion $ entity you'd think they'd have other options lol. In January I signed a contract for a 9 mo. risk management detail in Dubai. Was supposed to leave Jan. 28th but the covid crisis & Iran conflict put us on hold, so knowing they had to pay us the exuberant $ regardless they decided to put us to work doing menial jobs around the compound. NC then shut that down minus administrative employees, so getting paid to sit @ home is very convenient lol.
Email from work stating to be ready/stand-by starting May 21st. I don't put much stock in it as Constellis corporate insurance rates went up 700% since the pandemic. It'd be more savvy to continue pay us our contracted wage @ home, than to insure the unit abroad. We shall see said the blind man.
Turns out the magnet is a service ribbon lol pure vanity not even a credential , I don't need to advertise my military tour status, just to get a better parking spot.
