Default Wrong year?

look at this "2002" on ebay.
Seller and report say its a 2002 (was built in June 2001 and last 5 of VIN are 41458) but in 02, at least US specs cars, XJR came standard with CATS and Navigation and this one has neither.

I believe your information is in error. I have an 02 XJR, almost the same VIN number. It doesn't have CATS suspension, and on the original window sticker (which I still have), navigation is listed as an option.

"XJR came standard with CATS and Navigation". What is the source of this information?

I am wondering if this is a result of the transition from 01 to 02. The affected models seem to be very early 02 models, built in June 2001. Could some US 02 models really have been late 01s? My registration info all states 2002 model, and so does the VIN number decoder, if I decode my VIN.

Model Year causes confusion with several Jaguar models. There's two factors contribute to this:

1. factory new MY (Model Year) begins in September and not in January
2. vehicles imported to the USA are dated from import and not from date of manufacture for registration

A good example is effect is with the XK8/XKR which ceased production on 27th May 2005. New vehicles were still being imported to the USA in 2006 and they are therefore registered as 2006 vehicles.

My 2002 was an 8/01 build ... VIN is 458xx. NAV and Cats standard ... In fact when I bought mine there were no options available ...

Also: No 5th wheel. Mine has the temp spare -- even though the car has the space available. No "supercharged" badge on trunk.

Very interesting, I too have a 2002 sales brochure. It does in fact show X JR having navigation as standard equipment and CATS.

If I am reading the publication date correctly it waw printed April 01. But it also notes that specifications and colors are subject to change without notice.

The "Supercharged" badge was a kid, excuse me, owner add on.
My 01, that I bought new came without Nav ( did retrofit it) or CATS but with a 5th Asteroid

Interesting, as I have a 5th asteroid wheel, too.

So it looks like it was a late factory 01 model, but Jaguar USA marketed it as an 02. Anyway, I'm pretty happy with it. It has a proper spare, no CATS to go wrong, and has navigation, as it was specified as an option.

I opened it up and it has all-metal third generation tensioners.

In the dark days of British Leyland, it was chaos. Cars destined for the USA would frequently turn up with the wrong colour, options, hardtop instead of convertible, get shipped to the wrong state, or even the wrong country!

Things have improved since then, but I wouldn't take marketing brochures as gospel.

My last VW Jetta, there was a class lawsuit for incorrectly describing the car in marketing material (wrongly described the bluetooth connectivity, as in made it sound far better than it was).

The rim is interesting ....

My 95x300 VDB and my 98VDB both came with the 5th alloy rim -- I just assumed that the R's larger size did not fit in what was originally a 16" on the x300.

Now I know they were cutting costs! I can't think of the last time I needed a spare .. maybe 30 years. Having the extra rim in case of damage is nice.

As you say, the space is available. My 2000 XJ8L came with a temp spare which I replaced with a full size 7Jx16 Lunar to match the set on the vehicle.

The XJ8L was replaced with a 2001 XK8 Coupe which also came with a temp spare and also had space available for a full size wheel. This is when it started to get difficult because the XK8 had 8x16 rims on the front and 9x16 on the rear. I compromised and obtained an 8x16 spare thinking this was better front or rear than traveling any distance on the skinny emergency tyre. I did the same with the 2005 XK8 which followed it.

With my current XK, there isn't space to carry a full size wheel. I just hope I never get a puncture!

Jaguar X308 2002MY (V) F40032-F49790.

When I worked at the dealer we sometimes got NEW Model Year cars in MAY.
It all depends on some strange U.S. gov't rules and regs.
