Default X308 RH valve cover P/N variations

So, I just bought the B-Bank (left hand) cam-cover (valve cover) for my NON-VVT 3.2L X308 (30% special on jaguarlandrover.).
The cover for the other side (RH / A-Bank) was always significantly more expensive, and jaguarlandrover does not have it.
But I just had another look in the Barratt catalogue:
So, for my non-VVT the LH cover is C2A1513 and the RH cover is C2A1515.
While the RH cover for the VVT version is C2A1516.
I just compared C2A1515 and C2A1516: The C2A1516 (for VVT) is about 25% cheaper, and I have the impression that the only difference is, that the C2A1516 has a round opening above the VVT. Am I right in assuming that if I stuff that opening somehow, I can use it for non-VVT and I have saved 25%?

Do you have part-numbers, so that I can have a look at them?

Here is how the two different RH cam covers look like, which I found:

ALL supercharged 4.0 engines do NOT have VVT. (front timing cover or cam cover hydraulic units)

ANY 4.0 X100/X308 supercharged cam cover will work.(AJ27 NA cam covers have the hole)
ANY AJ26 cam cover will work.(no hole in the cam cover)

The cam cover gaskets are different on early engines, some are thin BLACK gaskets sets with individual spark plug well seals (engine number split sometime in late 1999MY) and some are the thicker orange/grey sets with paired spark plug well seals.(engine number from 1997MY to 1999MY)

Hey @Peter_of_Australia
Just had a couple of fresh ideas about blanking that VVT hole if you grabbed the RHS cam cover as discussed . . .
  • hit up all 3 forums here (XJ8, XK8, S-Type) that used this VVT engine as well as wreckers for the plug-in sensor, pref a dead one that will be a giveaway;
  • look out for an expanding plug of suitable diameter and reach . . . these being fitted as filler plugs to many tractor gearboxes and rear ends (Ford, NH and MF in the 50 to 120hp range).
I am posting here rather than PM or email you, so others may be aware of the latter. Butterfly wings above metal cap are hand-turned to expand a rubber disk below that seals the orifice. Neat, unobtrusive and very effective.

Peter, your location will give you access to rural suppiers of spares for tractors and farm machinery. IIRC, they were offered in a range of dia + reach, and were perhaps produced by the well known rural manufacturer BareCo or perhaps try Sparex.

Cheers,

Hi Ken,

There is only 1 wrecker here in Taree, and that one is crap (not "scrap"... ). I never ever found anything ever there.
I already thought about putting an old sensor in there, but since I don't have one...
So, if I get hold of the C2A1516 (with opening), I will more likely place a metal insert into the opening, using rubber seals, too.
Since I do not have a lathe, I am thinking about getting 2 bits of solid metal round bar: one with the OD of the opening diameter (1), and another bar with bigger OD (2)and create a sandwich: two slices of "2" and inside a slice of "1" plus a seal, all held together via a bold thru the centre of it all...

Could you not get a blanking grommet? like the grommets that go around wiring but without the hole in the middle? I've seen them in lots of sizes over the years so someone must sell them.
