I have a 2003 super v8 and have heard from others the x308 has a great chance to become collectibles-- your thoughts?

 

there's certainly a shot at that becoming true with the excellent looks of the 308, and I plan to find out with my intentions of never getting rid of my XJR.

 

For what it's worth...

Hemmings' graphs the market value of some cars based on a scaled score. Unfortunately, not all brands and models are represented. I haven't seen any reference to XJRs or Super 8s. Meaning? The car may be off the radar and as such a sleeper in the market. Who knows?

I do know the market is depressed for levels 3-6 vehicles. (Level 1 is the top representing a highly original or very well restored car and very rare and/or desirable car.)

I'm currently debating whether to buy a 1968 Mercury Cougar w/ a 302. It's a solid 2 car as far as quality goes, but a 3/4 for exclusivity. Current market value for XR7 versions is right at $13K. I can get it for $10K. But I plan to garage and sell it, not run it on the road. Unless the market turns up the wick, I'm not sure I want to speculate.

 

When i went to get my x308 the guy told me to keep it for a few years because it was probably going to become a collectors item.

to me a car should be used and enjoyed for what it is. it seems somewhat sad to see a car being towed around the country to shows, it has then become a 1:1 scale display model. just my opinion.

 

I GOT ONE OF MY 308s...LONG- FROM SOMEONE WHO BUYS/SELLS AND REPAIRS JAGS EXCLUSIVELY. The super 308 is the one more likely to go collectable first but I think the 308s in general will rise in value if well kept/maintained.However....
I bought an 85 xj6 from this same guy in 1996....I paid $ 6700 for it at the time...I wound up putting an additional $3500 into it to (re-built trans plus fuel pump and antenna motor..etc)...over time. Admittedly, the car was not an everyday driver and used mostly on weekends and local jag meets.
I sold the car in 2011 for a little under 11k.So I did not make much on the car, even though at the point of sale..it was 25 years old and had attained classic status....

I used the proceeds to buy a 308/xj8-2000-sport package...the 2000xj8-long was bought next...both platinum silver. I am always interested in xj8s...1998-2002/03 especially.

 

Hmmmm not so sure...... They are still falling in value in the UK, even early XJ6s, XJ40s go for little money, 60s MKIIs are starting to be worth something, I think it will be a long time yet before they start to go back up, however I have noticed XKs starting to creep back up, who knows I could be wrong

 

They're bona fide future classics, particularly the limited runs, Daimler Super V8's, XJR 100's but and this is a big BUT - they have to be an exception to the norm.

First the dross has to have been shipped to China as scrap, second buyers have to look back with nostalgia at their sleek lines with market price busting lust.

Exceptional cars make exceptional money. Mint and I mean mint cars will always command a premium. I can go out and buy any amount of dogs, but find a mint one? like a virgin on prom night, rare as hen's teeth. For that, the figure will be handsome, Jaguar saloon's have been and always will be classics, (apart from the alloy cars, lol)

 

as a kid, I used to think the jags in the 80's weren't that great, but I saw one at a car show recently and I LOVED IT!! Could it be I'm getting older?
