Default XJ8 optional AV system????

Hello. I recently ordered a wiring harness adapter for my xjr to hook up an after market stereo and to connect the steering wheel controls. When I went to the install it I found the connectors on this harness did not at all match the connectors on my car. I'm taking about the two connections at the back of the factory radio, one yellow, one white, and then the thick black wire.
When I first contacted the seller about this problem he said it was because my car was an XJR not an XJ8, and that this kit was for an XJ8 only. After convincing him that the two cars share the same interior and the same radio he is now saying it's not for XJ8s with the "optional AV system," which is what those yellow & white connectors are for and why the part I was sent will not fit.
Does anyone know what he might be talking about? Was there some optional AV package that would have different connections on the radio, or do all XJs share the same radio and hook ups?

Different options occurred over different years. We can't answer your question because we don't have a clue as to what Model Year XJR you have.
It would be most helpful to include the information in your signature block and then we would have a place to start.

I have an 2000 XJR, but I was asking about x308s in general. Was there ever an option like this?

No, 100% bs

The only difference are between pre 2000 and past 2000 cars.
There was 2 type of system, standard and premium but the connectors on the back of the radio were the same

Hi Scooby

Here is a photo of a Pre 2000 stereo system and a post 2000 system side by side. Look at the connectors on the rear which are totally different to each other and see if the loom you've bought may fit the earlier stereo?

However you can't put a 99 system in a 2001 car and vice versa because the connections are totally different.

The one on the left is a post 2000 and on the right is pre 2000.

Sounds like the seller has incorrect information, and is now trying to backtrack instead of admitting that they aren't selling the correct product, they're making excuses so that you won't return it for your bucks back.

If you are able to search other threads on here, you'll find out that as of yet, we've not found any pre-made stereo adapters for the X308.

The pre 2000 stereo looks just like the connector I was sent, so it seems I was sent the part for an xj, just the wrong year.

No the seller is correct, I'm the one who's wrong, the connector looks like it would fit the pre 2000 stereo pictured above.

Well I'm not entirely incorrect, looked back at his lisiting and it does state that it if for a 1998-2003 XJ8. I'm still in contact with the seller, so we'll see where this goes from here.
