Default XJ8 Radiator Expansion Tank Outlets

I am new but hope everyone is aware of a very common problem with the outlets on the Expansion Tank getting mixed up. The outlet that feeds coolant back to the Radiator should be on the left hand side of the expansion tank nearest the LH Guard /Wing and the one with the sharp RH bend which goes to the over flow that runs down along inner LH guard to go to the ground should exit the expansion tank on the right hand side .Thus the thin black plastic hoses cross over in front of the tank . When you examine under the radiator cap this becomes obvious with the outlet for overflow is in the top of the neck of the filler for the coolant so can come out the overflow if excess pressure exists in the system.

Several times a year there are new members with engines blowing coolant and swelling hoses after either secondary tensioner or thermostat housing replacement. It almost always is due to not crossing the lines.

RJ237 you are absolutely correct the poor previous owner had the car blowing coolant out the overflow since new water pump in 2013 and this why I bought car cheaply. Thanks to your advice and picture the car is perfect now and on a long fast run used no coolant. Always have the inlet hoses crossed is the motto.
