Switched my Asteroids on my 2001 XJR parts car with the Lunars from my 2002 XJ8 LS project. When tried to roll the XJR now with the Lunars it wouldn’t budge. Figured out the Lunars were jammed against the brake brackets. Had to remove calipers and brackets to move it. I thought unless an XJR-100, XJR calipers same as XJ8 so not understanding why Lunars jam on XJR.
12.5 inch diameter rotors. You can see pads too big for rotor (or rotor too small for pads) as outer edge of pad does not contact rotor.
I don't know for certain if its universal, but my 2001 XJR (just a run of the mill XJR, nothing fancy) has 325mm rotors on the front and I beleive older XJRs (98-99, not sure about 2000) has 305mm front rotors. Since the lug spacing and everything is the same I would guess a prior owner put the wrong rotors on the front of your car and used it for awhile like that, resulting in the weird wear on the pads.
I can fit 17" Revolver wheels off an XK8 on my car, thats my snow setup, but I'm under the impresion, without having tested it, that 16" wheels will not fit over the 325mm rotors and bracket. Dunno which ones Lunars are, but I'm guessing 16" if they're off an XJ8?
Yeah, when I acquired my 03’ SV8, I discovered the same issue that some ding dong put the 305 front rotors in place of a 325 brake caliper bracket. I had wondered why the braking seemed off. 🤦🏼♂️
My 2001 Daimler Super V8 has 305 discs but they are too small and it should have 325’s. This has resulted in the same abnormal brake wear.
I got around to replacing the discs and pads this weekend. Here's the result of the smaller discs on the pads that were in there. Look at that lip! It had actually broken off in one part. There's been an immediate improvement in braking performance with the 325's installed.
