OK, here's what I have learned in the last hour...
The part number for the '88 XJ6 directional indicator/ headlamp flash/ horn switch was JLM 504. WAS, because they are No Longer Supplied, and the number does not supercede to the switch used after VIN # 594575. I don't have a chart in front of me, that is probably 1990 on.
I have a switch in my hand that I'm pretty sure is from a 1988, and it has a factory sticker on it that says DBC 2281. That does not come up as a good part number, so I can't say 100% that it is the early switch. I do have another parts car with the correct switch in it, but I'm not pulling it out unless you are buying.
The switch I have in my hand has a blue connector with five wires that are soldered onto the PC board. The board is numbered at some of the connection points. There are also two black wires that attach to the board which come down through the stalk, these would be for the horn push button.
Farthest connection to the left is #10, that is a green/ blue wire.
Immediately to the right of that is one of the black horn wires.
Top right is #24, that is a black/ pink wire.
Immediately to the right of that is the other black horn wire.
Farther down on the right is #14, that is a purple/ green wire.
Below that is #6, that is a yellow/ brown wire.
Bottom right is #7, that is a yellow/ blue wire.
That's all of them. If your switch has the DBC2281 sticker on it, then it will match those connections for sure. I doubt that a wiring diagram will have the wiring connections numbered at the PC board.
If you want to buy a switch, $100.00 will get it done, and I'll pull the one from my '88 which is like a 525 VIN so it will be correct for sure. That's about as much information as you are likely to find, hope it helps.
