90 Vanden Plas Power Steering Problems
I've got a 1990 vanden plas majestic, 4.0 with leaking power steering in the front. Traced it to the low pressure return line hose, almost looks like a oversized radiator hose.
Not with standing just how worthless a auto parts store has become, even a internet search doesn't show anything, just the barbed hoses you use a flare nut wrench on for a replacement.
What is being used for this? Some rare jaguar dealer part?
Thanks! Semi closest match I found was 1' heater core hose, but I have no idea if the power steering fluid would eat it for lunch

Sorry to hear of your issue.First off,Is the system still running the rear self leveling shocks?Stock setup?
If so the system will be filled with green fluid.Do not try to mix fluids, get the real Jag stuff for the repair.
The larger hose is the feed hose for the power steering pump as well as the hydraulic pump for the rear shocks.
Trace the hose and you will see it comes to a "y"fitting, common leaks here.
The parts are getable, but if you remove the hose, cut the crimps, save the fittings and replace the hunk of hose with common 5/8 ID oil return hose and use hose clamps things are way cheaper.
You can delete the rear SLS setup as well, but you have to replace the rear shocks.More pricey, but better in the long run,See my thread'green goo gone".
Sorry about the missing line breaks,my bad...
Hope this helps,Jim

By oil return hose you mean regular fuel line? My concern (as well as the parts guys) was that the power steering fluid would eat the new rubber alive!
Thanks for your help. Getting annoying having the jag marking it's area! That's what my 85 Ford F350 diesel is for, not a luxury car!
Hi mohavewolfpup,
I'm not sure if this is the hose you're describing, the low pressure hose from the P/S fluid reservoir to the P/S pump, but if so, it's a very common leak point. The hose hardens due to its proximity to the exhaust manifold and begins to leak at one or both ends. As manwich66 said, any standard 5/8-inch ID oil-safe hose will work. See the photo album at the link below. Your reservoir may look different, but the principle is the same - take great care not to snap the hose nipple off the reservoir:

Hmm, I'll have to get a photo of it later. The hose literally looks like a 1' hose, or almost what you would find for a radiator hose connection. Unless i'm wrong and frazzled, it looks nothing like 5/8 size hose

Yep! The oil-resistant hose you can typically buy at your local auto parts store has a wall thickness of more than 1/8 inch (maybe as thick as 3/16 inch), so yes, the OD of the hose is +/- 1 full inch, but it's the inside diameter (ID) that matters.

I was able to get 5/8 I.D. hose at a place called "Big R". Its an agricultural based store, and the hose was labeled for "sprayers, do not use with ammonium hydroxide". its the right size but I am keeping my eye on it for leakage.
