Default a/c compressor not clicking on

1989 Xj6 Vanden Plas My a/c is not working and i don't hear the compressor turning on my a/c control just has a slide for temp setting from hot to cold ..as we're new to owning is there something i'm not doing right.. how do you set the temperature that you want..and are there any fuse's i should look for.....all fuses in all 3 fuse boxes are fine..are there fuses to the compressor and where are they located.. haven't tried jumping the compressor yet not sure if i want to do that with everything being so electronic...

There is a pressure switch on the back of the compressor (they are prone to LEAK) that will disable the clutch if the refrigerant pressure is low.

You can reach down, unplug and 'short' the switch connector to engage the clutch if that is the problem.

thanks i did jump at the relay an came right on so next is to recharge it
