My MY94 XJ6 is currently not starting (it just chuffs when I turn it over with the key) so I am shopping around for a CPS to try and as usual I see new ones are in the $200 - $250 range. However I see the following listing on ebay for about $30 with free shipping.
This part at the CPS end looks like it might fit but the wiring connector on the other end looks totally different. It is a three wire sensor instead of the two wire sensor used on the X300 cars.
Has anyone here ever used one of these aftermarket CPS parts? If so how did you wire it up?
Here are some photos from the listing on ebay

Doesn't it look a bit shorter and fatter than OEM to you?
Maybe it's the pic, but sure looks short to me ..I'd ask the seller the dimensions if I were you.
I don't have any experience with those inexpensive crank sensors, but it shouldn't be difficult to wire it to the electrical connector from your old CPS. One of the three wires on your old CPS is a shield, and that is probably true of the new CPS also, so you just have to figure out which wire is the shield, and whether the polarity of the other two wires matters, which you can determine by simple trial and error.
The one thing that catches my eye is the short length of the barrel. For comparison, here are photos of the CPS on our '93 in the stock bracket and in Andy Stoddart's timing advance bracket:
You can get an aftermarket CPS sensor on sng Barrett for $55. I believe you can find the same CPS sensor on aliexpress for like $10 but I can’t seem to find it now and the shipping would prolly take awhile
Those are both two wire sensors for a X300 car. The XJ40 crank sensor is a three wire unit.
The wiring plug is totally incorrect for the XJ40 wiring harness.

As I mentioned earlier, the third wire on the XJ40 sensor is just a shield against EMI/RFI. On at least two of the aftermarket sensors I purchased the shield wire was clipped at either the sensor or connector end. The schematics show that the shield does not connect to the ECM but to ground/earth.
If it proved that the shield was important, it would be fairly simple matter to slip some solder wicking braid or braided shielding sleeve over the sensor wires and connect it to ground.
The connector swap should be easy using the connector from your old CPS. I seem to recall that the XJ40 CPS connectors changed at least once. I know they were different on our '88 and '93.
